http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/05/22/marvel-heroes-is-a-diablo-style-mmoSold!!!!! I am a sucker for World of Warcraft so this is right up my ally. Interesting that it seems that you actually play as the heroes. I would have thought you would make your own hero. So in a way it's similar to XMen Legends/MUA. No release date on this but hopefully it will be within the next year or so.

They're referencing a RIDICULOUS amount of characters there... Let's hope this comes off, eh?!

The trailer looks pretty awesome.
I like that there will be public zones with random events (like Sentinels dropping in) and that you can team up with other heroes (without being allies or whatever) that are also in the public zone to take them down.
I hope there's a bigger selection of heroes than in previous games.

By the sounds of it they are gearing up for future expansions. My guess would be we will see all the major players from the big teams first off. And then much like WoW and Diablo ect smaller patches will be released afterwards with new dungeons/characters/zones. Then a few years later a big expansion....maybe introducing the cosmic side of things since the developers mentioned that.

Looks like MUA and Legends which is good. The part that might be annoying is having 20 hulks running around and twenty spidermen.

I'm glad it's not a typical WoW cloned MMO. Traditional MMO's bore me to death.
I'm also excited its free to play. I'm guessing you will buy content in -game. But that's not a big deal to me usually, as long as the purchases are mostly cosmetic or power boosts.
Pretty exciting!

http://www.marvelheroes.com/Official site - More info here including some character bios. I guess they will be adding more as time goes on but for those interested for the X-men side of things Cyclops, Wolverine, Cable and Deadpool. If you click on the heroes tab and then click grid view it shows the twelve confirmed heroes with anothr 24 slots empty. Maybe they will include more characters past 36 in the future....I hope they do as seeing 1000 Wolverine's running round would be irritating....but also apt. I think it is safe to assume Mr Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Dr Strange, Emma Frost, Iceman, Storm, Daredevil, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Jean Grey will be playable. Plus the likes of Beast, Psylocke, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Rogue, Shadowcat, Scarlet Witch, Gambit, She-Hulk, Ghost Rider, Hank Pym, War Machine, Spider Woman, Namor and Havok in strong contension.

A diablo clone with Marvel characters? I'm cautiously intrigued. It's good timing considering the recent release of D3.

Yeah, this looks like it'll be an MMO version of X-Men Legends/Ultimate Alliance. Which, of course, was Diablo esque in itself. But that's okay, because I loved it. And the whole idea of continued expansion packs and the free-to-play/microtransaction model means I'll very likely be playing this bad boy when it comes out.

Well not to be entirely nit picky, but Diablo has been around WAY before X-men Legends.
The descriptors that scream Diablo clone over Legends is the "item collection and elements of randomization for loot drops and the layouts of dungeons and combat zones" mention. That is an almost trademark aspect of the Diablo games. The fact that the president of the company making the game also designed the first two Diablos says something too.

I am eagerly anticipating this game. From the reveal trailer, it does look like a Diablo clone, but given that series awesome-ness, I am definitely not complaining. I have never really been a fan of micro-transactions, but I can understand the model when they decide to make it free-to-play (a la DC Universe). Maybe I missed it, but is this a PC Only or is it coming to consoles as well?
I did read a pretty big article on this game on IGN's site and it kinda clarified a little more about switching characters. From what I gather, it'll be akin to Pokemon where you will have access to a wide range of characters, but will have a waiting period to when you change them out. The example given was if you are Iron Man and his skill set isn't what you need or you want to change it up, you can call for Emma Frost, but there will be a waiting period until she "arrives" and is playable.
I think this approach works, especially in a group setting. If you get a group together and it's 6 Wolverines, the group can figure out who to switch out so that way the group is set for the mission ahead.

Yep, that's why I said X-Men Legends was Diablo-esque in itself.

I mean, practically every action beat em up in the last 15 years is a Diablo Rip Off in some ways. And that's not to say the original Diablo didn't do some ripping off of games before it. So, it's just common sense that if they want to do a more story-oriented game than the traditional MMO that's the route they'd take.
The thing that I feel is unfortunate is that MMORPG's in general have in a lot of ways forgotten the RPG part. Bioware is really the only company anymore that places a value on giving the player a direct hand in choosing the narrative, ala the Baldur's Gate style of games. I'm not saying Marvel should do that necessarily. But it would be pretty cool - as long as they are borrowing from other games - if they could have included some of the conversation path stuff from The Old Republic.

I suspect there will be a vast array of characters to play from, so that you have plenty of choice. This will hopefully counteract the problem of everyone wanting to play the same few characters.

First time I'm reading about this. Looks pretty awesome and they've got a good range of characters too. Making it a free MMO online is a pretty interesting strategy too, I can see a lot of possibilities for this if the game gets popular.
Does anyone know if they have a tentative release date stated anywhere?

Th SD Comicon will have a booth where this game is playable. I wish I lived in America. Info on the game has been quiet the past few weeks other than the announcements of Scarlet Witch, Hulk and Deadpool as playable. A new trailer was released today with some blurb from one of the dev. No new info really but I did hear that Sinister's lab will be in the game so looks like he will be a boss and if you have him then you must have a few Marauders. Chances are a lot of info will come out of the comicons. Edit: Gameplay trailer is up. Looks good. http://comic-con.gamespot.com/video/6386295/marvel-delivers-an-mmo-with-real-heroesThe guy playing roams around the X-Mansion and you can see Beast, Emma, Cyclops and Xavier plus I think Psylocke. The stories are done on motion comics which look cool. Boom Boom gets a raw deal by the looks of it. For some reason Mutliple Man is a costume vendor. But they cleverly have Cloak as your teleporter. Looking good so far. edit 2: So more from the SDCC and it looks like Rocket Raccoon is playable. A character drawing was put up on their website but taken down again soon after. Not sure what this means but hopefully he is playable.

As a huge Diablo II/III and MMO-fan, I'm pretty excited for Marvel Heroes, too.
Let's just hope they release it worldwide. We had to wait for Super Hero Squad Online for over a year in Europe iirc.

Pretty huge news about this game came out today, the announcement of Founders Packs. With the Ultimate Pack you pay $200 but get every character/costume available in the game. What do you guys think of this method of selling the game? Anyone considering shelling out that much? Also is anyone in the closed beta yet? I'd like to know how the game plays before I invest that much money into an MMO.
