Challenge Accepted Drunk! I'm going to flip your idea and do the Avengers.
Red - Hulk : No-one's angrier than the Hulk
Orange - Iron Man : While a hero at heart, of all the Avengers he's the one that wants the most. Plus, it matches his suit.
Yellow - Wolverine, this guy scares the sh#!t out a lot of villains.
Green - Captain America: nuff said.
Blue - Hank Pym: He may be a little crazy sometimes, but he's always had hope for the future.
Indigo - Spider Man: This is the guy that counteracts the likes of Wolverine
Violet - Wasp : She is filled with love, for her teammates

I'll see your Avengers Gibbering Fool and raise you the "Vigilante Lanterns." Or is it the "Vigilanterns"?
Red - Punisher : He has anger issues
Orange - Silver Sable : She's a gold digger, just thought you should know ******
Yellow - Moon Knight : You don't have to be crazy to instill fear, but it helps
Green - Black Panther : It's good to be the king
Blue - Black Cat : For someone that brings bad luck, she is very upbeat and positive
Indigo - Daredevil : I guess compassion is blind
Violet - Spiderman : Face it Tiger, you're in love

Okay, now for a villain team inspired by the Legion of Doom. :) But as an additional twist, this Legion of Doom is a dark mirror of the Xmen. Maybe I'll do a version for a different super team later.
Red: Sabretooth (he's fury with fangs and claws)
Orange: Mystique (she literally steals people's lives)
Yellow: Apocalypse (he almost succeded in scaring the UN into killing 75% of the human population)
Green: Trask (he has a single minded dedication that requires intense willpower
Blue: Mr. Sinister (perhaps a stretch, but he never gives up on his dream of creating the ultimate mutant)
Indigo: Mr. Negative (One of the few villains that can claim to actually feel your (inner) pain.)
Violet: Bastion (loves the human race so much that he has devoted his existence to eradicating 'threats' to it)

This may be a little out there, but I think Mr Fantastic would be a potential candidate for an orange ring. He may not be gready for money, but he desires knowledge above all else.

Red - Namor, Ok I get Hulk is the poster boy of Rage but I don't think he fits in with the rest of the corps over in DC. He's a calm and placid bloke really with just some problems. Namor on the other hand is ready to kick off over the slightest thing.
Orange - Doom! The guy wants everything!
Yellow - I think with Yellow it's not so much as being able to cause fear but the using of it to hurt and control others. So even though someone like Trauma would be easy and obvious I'll say Venom
Green - Daredevil! What about 'The Man without fear' do you not understand? Dude blindly walked through Hell just for a chance to kick Mephisto in the balls. (Spider-Man is a close second though)
Blue - Professor X : The shining beacon of hope. Or again Spider-Man
Indigo - Nightcrawler...or Spider-Man

Alright, because I can't let go I'm continuing the discussion.
I'm curious, who out of all the characters on Earth, would be the best White Lantern, aka the protector of life?

Maybe one of the X-Students. Elixer would be my first choice. Also, I could see Dust or maybe Gentle being White Lanterns
