    Posted: 22-Oct-2011 at 4:35pm
So lets say all the Avengers from the current titles were wiped out, who do you think would be the best candidates to step in an take up the mantle of Avenger?  To stick with the theme of the other recent topics like this, I'll provide some rules.

1) A former Avenger (or reserve Avenger) not from the current rosters
2) An X-man
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally
4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team)
5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc)
6) A villain (who will reform)
8) An alien
7) A wildcard (whoever you want)

To clarify, by current Avengers roster I mean Avengers, New, Secret and the teaching staff from Academy.

1) A former Avenger
2) An X-man

4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team)
5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc)
6) A villain (who will reform)
8) An alien
7) A wildcard (whoever you want)

1) Black Knight - A cool character that doesn't get used as much and has Avengers time behind his back.
2) Iceman - Time for Bobby to step it up and get more respect and be somewhere he can make a difference
3)Black Cat - This would just be an interesting development, a wrench in the works with her bad luck and such.
4)Stingray - Another character with time under his belt as an Avenger and hasn't been used much at all anytime recently
5)Gravity - I'll always champion for Gravity being a bigger hero and getting a bigger profile. The 'newbie' eyes into the team so to speak.
6)Shocker - A bad guy that is not really a 'bad' person. Always wanted to see him do such a thing as I almost threw him on the Avengers in fan fic.
7)Hepzibah - Right now she's not doing anything at all on Earth, stuck on Utopia not even showing up in background anymore. Give her a shot with the Earth's Mightiest.
8)Photon - The team leader, she needs some more spotlight and this would be the perfect time.

1) A former Avenger (or reserve Avenger) not from the current rosters - Hercules, a former Avenger and Champion, still without his powers but armed with powerful mythic items and many lifetimes of knowledge, hes the leader of the new team. Interestingly enough filling the role Captain America would fill rather than Thor, the heart and moral compass of the team.

2) An X-man Storm, she's powerful, she's one of the most popular mutants, it time she got appreciated.

3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally Spider-woman (Mary Jane), with Spider-man and Spider-woman gone, and MJ still with powers left over from Spider Island (please), she takes up Peter's changing FF costume and webshooters.

4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team) A-Bomb (I know hes with the Hulks but), Rick Jones the constant side-kick to the Avengers is not going to turn down his chance especially in such dire times.

5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc) - Wiccan, the magic guy.

6) A villain (who will reform) Ghost, the guys creepy but shown to be pretty useful, he's close to almost becoming a genuine hero which is probably surprising for him. Also a tech guy for the team.

7) An alien Karolina Dean, of all the Runaways (aside from Molly) I feel the most likely to become a genuine superhero, with her powers.

8) A wildcard (whoever you want) Blue Marvel, the guys powerful, smart and underused, this event actually shakes him loose from his moping at the bottom of the ocean and brings him onto a team. His underwater sanctuary actually makes for a good hideout when teleported to by Wiccan.

I've noticed Hercules is the only one who can't fly or cover ground incredibly fast by levitating, leaping, swinging or teleporting, so I'd have him borrow a set of Hermes' sandals after being accidentally left behind by his team.

Amadeus Cho and Hulking are probably floating around somewhere, but I'd rather them not to be members because I want a fresh dynamic. Maybe Cho's off trying to maintain Stark Resilient with Stark gone (and wearing his armour) and Hulking's still with the Young Avengers training the Academy kids out of the Mansion.

A lot of these are my fan-favorites, but if there was ever someone who earned a rise in rankings to Avengers status, it's Songbird.

1. Darkhawk
2. Chamber
3. Madame Web (Julie)
4. Josiah X
5. Vision
6. Songbird
7. Toxin
8. Sif

1) A former Avenger: Hulk - seeing him in the Avengers cartoon and movie trailers makes me want to see him trying as an Avenger again.
2) An X-man: Longshot - technically he's not a mutant and there's not much tying him to the X-teams at the moment. Plus he'd be a media darling.
3) Spider Man family member: Venom (Flash Thompson) - He's been doing good as Venom, it would be cool to see him step up to take his hero Spidey's place.
4) A solo hero: Ghost Rider - a very recognizable character, who would help with supernatural threats.
5) A 'young" hero: Stature - she already ran with the Mighty Avengers, plus every Avengers needs someone that can grow or shrink.
6) A villain: Ultron - What!? Reprogram him and out him on the side of the angels. Olus, the team needs someone with brains.
7) An alien: Starfox - I'm sure he'd bring some comedy to the team.
8) A wildcard: Captain Britain - I realized there's noone with leadship potential on my team, other than Flash, and he's going to have symbiote dramas.

7) An alien
8) A wildcard (whoever you want)

1) Black Knight - He's pretty snazzy and hasn't been used much lately.
2) Dazzler - She was offered a position on the team before, and turned it down. I feel like they kind of undid a bunch of character development recently in Uncanny by just making her a singing blonde, so she could use the help.
3) Spider-Woman - (Jessica Drew) I love Jessica, and I think she has some leadership qualities and deserves a spot light.
4) Rawhide Kid - Time displaced cowboy. He'd be like wild west gay Captain America.
5) Prodigy - Former mutant turned genius who knows everything the X-Men he worked with knew. He's a literal walking dictionary of not only military science, combat and fighting styles but also general book smarts and science and technology.
6) Loki - I'd say less reformed, more working with them because he got kicked out of Asgard and has to 'earn' his way back in. I wish he was still in his female form cause that was nifty, but LoKid is pretty cool too.
7) Hulkling - He's just cool, and I'd like to see him get some independence from Wiccan because they're written so close.
8) Captain Britain - He's got connections to both the Avengers and to Dazzler from their time in Excalibur together, so I'd like to see him on the team.

Not to be a downer but Spiderwoman is actually one the current Avengers line-up so she'd be gone, but I love the idea of Rawhide.

The guidelines just say that number one can't be a character currently on the roster. Number three only dictates a character from the Spider-Mythos, and doesn't say they can't be on a team currently. If that's the case, Captain Britain would also be out since he was recently offered a role on the Avengers, and accepted, though I'm not sure to what capacity, and Hulkling would also be out, since he's a Young Avenger. And also, thanks! I wish they'd do some kind of modern western title with some of those characters, or use them like legacy characters and have new characters use the titles. A supernatural modern western would be awesome.

Sorry I interpreted the OP differently, I thought we couldn't use current Avengers, New, Secret and the teaching staff from Academy in all catergories. I assumed the Avengers floating around were fine.

Yeah Spider Woman is currently in one of the Avenger titles I nominated so she's off the table. The Young Avengers are ok. Captain B isn't in one of the Avengers titles so he's good.

Wolfthomas, sir, you were correct! In that case I'll swap Jess out for Ben Reilly under the new codename of Redback. Also going to swap Hulkling out for Xavin to make it a little more gender balanced with Jess being gone and use Captain Britain as the leader.

1) A former Avenger (or reserve Avenger) not from the current rosters
Falcon.  He was a pretty iconic Avenger.

2) An X-man
Kitty Pryde.  Come on, she'd be a GREAT Avenger!

3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally
Black Cat.  She really deserves bigger name recognition.  And she was part of Luke's crew in House Of M, it was a good fit.

4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team)
Nova.  I know he's a cosmic guy, and was on the Secret Avengers for a hot minute, but he'd be great.

5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc)
Wiccan.  No explanation needed.

6) A villain (who will reform)
Moonstone.  I know she's kind of a hero being on the Thunderbolts, but come on.  She's still pretty villain-y.  Wouldn't hurt to have two people on the team who can phase, too.

8) An alien
Hulkling.  Kinda cheating, I know, but I can't bear to keep him and Wiccan apart.  :)

7) A wildcard (whoever you want)
Songbird.  She deserves it perhaps more than anyone in the Marvel U right now.  And she could keep an eye on Moonstone.

1) A former Avenger (or reserve Avenger) not from the current rosters: Photon-- Monica's a good choice for leader as well as being immensely powerful. She has a wealth of experience that she could bring to the table.
2) An X-man: Xavier-- less as a scrapper (although Carey's run on Legacy showed that he's not afraid to get his hands dirty), more as an advisory capacity and synchronising communication on the battlefield. He's not being used elsewhere, and I think this could be a good fit for him.
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally: Black Cat-- I think she'd be hugely under-estimated. She has stealth skills as well as being a tough hand-to-hand fighter. Think it's time she stepped out of the Spider's shadow.
4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team): I think I'll have to go with Ghost Rider because I don't really know many other solo heroes...
5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc): Cloud 9-- Ranged weapon user, able to provide transport as well as an offensive weapon... and she was kick-ass during Secret Invasion! Girl needs some time to shine.
6) A villain (who will reform): Yeah, going to have to go with Moonstone too. I think she'd be a very interesting fit on this team, and with Xavier around to constantly second-guess her, I think it would actually be quite humbling for her to find someone on a team that means that she can never manipulate people like she's used to.
7) An alien: JOHN THE SKRULL! Because if I was writing this title, that's quite a lot of potential angst right there. I needs me some comic relief.
8) A wildcard (whoever you want): Nico Minoru: A literal wildcard, who's still learning a lot about her powers, but who can literally do almost anything.

Inspired by Justice League Dark, I'm making a team to deal with Supernatural threats.

1) A former Avenger - Scarlet Witch
2) An X-man - Magick
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally - Madame Web
4) A solo hero - Damian Hellstrom
5) A 'young" hero - Wiccan
6) A villain (who will reform) - The Hood
7) A wildcard (whoever you want) - Blade
8) An alien - Hulking, can't split him and Wiccan up.

1. Former Avenger: Nova - He was an Avenger for a hot second. Cosmic, powerful, a good second in command.

2. An X-Man: Iceman - the Hawkeye of the team attitude wise, immensly powerful.

3. Spider-Family: Black Cat - Espionage, stealth, the Black Widow.

4. A Solo Hero: Captain America - Bucky comes back, takes up the mantle again and forms and inspires a new team of Avengers. (Leader)

5. Young Hero: Wiccan - My favorite Young Hero. Magic.

6. Reforming Villain: Songbird - Not so much of a villain any more, definitely deserves a shot at being an Avenger.

7. An Alien: Thor Girl - obviously a Thor replacement, I like her design and she could use some spotlight.

8. Wildcard: Sasquatch - I like a big hulking figure on the team. Resident scientist as well.

3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally
Spider-Girl

4) A solo hero (i.e. not currently affiliated with a team) Veil

5) A 'young" hero from the (Avengers Academy, Initiative, Young Avengers, New X-men etc) Reptil

Here's a quick take:

1) A former Avenger - Photon/Captain Monica - criminally underutilized
2) An X-Man - Phoenix/Jean Grey - AvX ends with her return...
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally - Arachne/Madame Web
4) A solo hero - Captain America (Bucky)
5) A "young" hero - Gravity - he's ready for the Big Leagues.
6) A villain (who will reform) - Juggernaut --- he's a heavy hitter and his post-Cyttorak evolution could be interesting
8) An alien - Quoi, son of Mantis -- though he'd need a MAJOR makeover.
7) A wildcard (whoever you want) -- Shroud

1) A former Avenger - Falcon, he's a classic and would make a great leader.
2) An X-Man - Gambit, I can see Remy enjoying the celebrity status of being an Avenger.
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally - Firestar, she is one of his fantastic friends. Great hero.
4) A solo hero - Sentry (Bill Turner). Former sentry sidekick Scout takes up the Sentry's mantle as a battered and scarred Silver Age-esque hero.
5) A "young" hero - Nomad, under the mentoring of Falcon.
6) A villain (who will reform) - Menace. I could see her trying to get some redemption.
8) An alien - Korg, constantly being mistaken for the Thing
7) A wildcard (whoever you want) - Watch Dog, he's a flying dog that talks welsh why not?

As mentioned in the first post, all of the Avengers have been wiped out. How can the leader of the New Avengers keep her band of bad boys together long enough to save the world? I went with a "Bad boy" theme, except for the Leader.

1) Current Avenger: Storm (Leader)
2) An X-Man: Fantomex
3) Spider family: Scarlet Spider (Kaine)
4) Solo Hero: The Punisher
5) Young Hero: Quentin Quire
6) A Villain: Mystique
7) An Alien: Kid Gladiator
8) Wildcard: Winter Soldier

1) A former Avenger (or reserve Avenger) not from the current roster: Hellcat She hasn't been used that much, that I'm aware of.
2) An X-man : Dazzler She's widely known in the Marvel U and could help mutant relations.
3) Someone from the Spider Man family, or a Spidey ally: Venom Doesn't matter which Venom either.
4) A solo hero: Winter Soldier Bring Bucky back to the forefront.
5) A 'young" hero: Sister Grimm Be nice to see one of the Runaways used elsewhere
6) A villain: Taskmaster His skills would come in handy for the team.
7) An Alien: Ronan  Just because an Avengers team needs somebody with a hammer
8) A wildcard: Songbird Songbird deserver more than languishing in Thunderbolts hell.

Here's my "wishlist"
Former Avenger: Black Knight
Ties to the Avengers, Excalibur, Heroes for Hire... Give him back his mystical armor, sword and shield and he could really be bad-ass... Due to his weaponry and experience he is quite literate as to what mystical and occult phenomenon is concerning... On the other hand he is also a scientist...
Member of the Spider Man family: the Black Cat
A cunning thief... Agile, sexy, ... Maybe give her back a light version of her bad luck powers... Let's say Black Widow meets The Wasp with a gist of Sersi - personality wise..
Solo Hero: Son of Satan
Master of the occult - quite bad-ass, has assisted quite some heroes in the past... Maybe he can start fancying a new "cat' or maybe a 'fox'... See alien member... Hehehe
Young hero: Mass Master
Hey... This is a young hero.... After seeing Alex getting to shine with the FF and Julie hanging out at the AA, Jack Power decides that now his time has come to join the big league... As Mass Master he certainly possesses a versatile power. He could also serve as a entry point to new readers, with him being new to the whole superheroing stuff...
Villain: Juggernaut
He' s a villain again isn't he... As the powerhouse of the team he's a force to take into account... He could have found a Sammy Pare replacement in Jack.
Alien: Starfox
He is also a former Avengers, his s uperstrength and flight could come in handy, but his real asset would be his mental ability...
Wildcard: Stardust
Also an Alien, but def. mostly a wildcard... Uber powerfull, maybe Sentry Level.... Could being part of this team be interesting/ challenging/ exciting enough for hom to be on the team?
Some people deverse a high five! In the face! With a chair!
