BIOGRAPHY
Renata “Nata” De Lima hails from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Like many other mutants, her powers developed at the onset of puberty. Her bones “became hard as steel and her skin as dense as a football.” Her parents disowned her when she turned 13 after they found out of her mutant status. Despite this, she believed it was not out of an actual prejudice against her. She thought they viewed her mutation as a curse, which would bring only death to her eventually. It was easier to cut ties then. Unfortunately, Nata also bought into this lie and equally considered herself living on borrowed time.
Her combination of poverty and mutant gifts led her to make a rather obvious career choice: bouncer. She did not work high-class events, however, and often had to break up fights between opposing local gang members. She knew she was not accepted in that world and understood she was merely tolerated out of fear, not respect. It was a lonely life and perhaps this is why she sought to comfort the girlfriend of one of the gang members, Jisa, when she saw the young woman in tears. Jisa had just found out she had become pregnant but her now “ex” Laolo wanted her to get an abortion. Jisa was very Catholic and had already been kicked out by her parents due to “sinning” with Laolo and couldn't conceive of going through with a termination. Possibly seeing a kindred spirit, Nata explained to Jisa her own history and offered her somewhere to stay during her pregnancy.
Nata took Jisa to her doctor’s appointments, cared for her when she was sick, and bought her food. The two young women quickly bonded and were even holding hands at points. Jisa privately thought to herself that Nata would make a great aunt to her child, though she seemed conflicted as their relationship seemed romantic in nature, at the very least on Nata's side. As Nata was heading to work one day, Jisa thought to herself she was the “most beautiful person in the world.” As Nata was heading home, Laolo met her with a mob. He wanted her wages but he also wanted her to stay away from Jisa. Nata didn't particularly care about the money and offered it to Laolo, though she mocked him for being less of a man than she was. Things escalated and Nata was engulfed by the gang and appeared to perish. [Muties #4]
[Note: Jisa was devoutly Catholic and it did not appear that the relationship with Nata had reached a sexual level.]
Whether or not Nata survived her run-in with Laolo is unclear but she did eventually find her way to Krakoa. Her relationship with Jisa did not continue, as she started a new one with former MLF member, Tempo. The two dated for three months but Nata made the decision to end things for a variety of reasons. She found herself uncomfortable with Tempo's past as terrorist. Additionally, she considered her far too closed off, as Nata knew very little about her past, her hobbies etc. The relationship was also progressing far too slow for Nata's liking as well. Tempo took her words to heart and decided, as the relationship hadn't gone fast enough for Nata, Tempo would speed up their breakup using her time based powers. [Marauders Annual #1] Following the fall of Krakoa during the third Hellfire Gala, Nata's whereabouts are unknown.
