Rogue's first attempt at a pep talk had not been successful. Indra developed a mental block, preventing him from accessing his armored form and resulting in him feeling literal physical pain. He believed the gods were punishing him for his actions and had taken his gifts away. Rogue was unconvinced. Later, she returned with some borrowed telepathic powers to attempt to help Indra with the pain when he was transforming. Indra refused, thinking she just wanted to turn him into a weapon and a disgrace to his family and his religion. This uncharacteristic moment of volatility from the usually even-tempered Indra exposed the deep shame he felt towards his own powers. Indra stormed off. Rogue wasn't giving up on him and returned a third time. She opted for the direct approach, confronting him about the paradox of him, a “pacifist,” choosing the name of a warrior god. She believed that, deep down, Indra knew he had hidden potential to be a fighter. Faced with the question and despite his proclamation that the armored him was “someone else” entirely, Indra couldn't help but transform. This time, however, he had developed a far more evolved form. Later, on the beach, he generated a blade using his expanded powers and threw it at a rock, still very much confused about who he was meant to become. [X-Men: Legacy (1st series) #234]
Indra's family soon recalled him home. His elder brother Tejpal had inexplicably become comatose after an unknown illness that was inflicting Indian citizens in Mumbai and the surrounding area. Cyclops asked Rogue to take him home. His classmates Loa and Anole were dispatched too along with Magneto. As they landed in Mumbai, Loa tried to empathize with Indra, thinking he must be worried sick about his brother. Indra confessed he wasn't worried and considered his parents by nature “dramatic.” This was a first glimpse for his friends of the dynamic he had with his family. Indra's family chauffeur took them to the castle. Indra's mother hugged him on arrival, while his father shook his hand. His father quickly directed his mother to take him to his brother. Indra was shocked when he saw how ill his brother was and that recovery was not expected. He vowed to remain with him until he recovered. It was then that that his mother opted to reveal the real reason for summoning him home. His brother had been arranged to marry the daughter of one of his father's business associates. With Tejpal comatose, Indra was being forced to do so in his stead. Indra went to confront his father but was unable to bring himself to do so and even found himself thanking his father for the opportunity of the marriage.
Rogue and the others had gone sight-seeing in Mumbai and returned with a runaway from the Children of the Vault, Luz. Rogue asked Indra's father to offer her somewhere to stay as she was being pursued. Initially he refused but Indra asked his father to make an exception, as he wanted his friends to be guests at his wedding. Indra's father relented and left, telling Indra he needed to prepare as his bride to be was on route. Rogue, Loa and Anole tried to support Indra and convince him not to go through with the wedding but he was steadfast that it was his duty as a son. The first meeting between Indra and his bride to be, Vaipala, was somewhat awkward. However at least she did seem impressed by his travels. The runaway Luz thought Indra was attractive and attempted to foil the upcoming nuptials by creating a light sculpture of she and Indra being intimate. At the time, Indra was sitting in his room and managed to miss the obscene display. Luz, a veritable free spirit, tried to encourage Indra to break from tradition, as she was doing and live his own life. She even kissed him, much to his shock. Before he had time to process what had really happened, the Children of the Vault attacked in an attempt to reclaim their “sister.”
Indra, Magneto and Rogue engaged the Children, though they were overwhelmed. Luz managed to trick the Children with her light powers into thinking she had surrendered, when in fact it was Vaipala. The two women had agreed to a switch, as Vaipala didn't want to marry and wished to see the world, any world. Confident of their victory, the Children teleported away with an unconscious Rogue and Magneto. The loss of his mentor Rogue finally shocked Indra into action. While he agreed to marry Vaipala, he intended to pursue Rogue and Magneto. A compromise was reached that Indra would marry Vaipala immediately, then pursue his friends. During the wedding ceremony, Luz dropped her illusion, claiming that she never wanted to marry Indra; she just thought he was “cute.” Just as she confessed, her people's hidden city began to fall from the sky and crash into Mumbai. The energies it had been emitting were responsible for the illness afflicting the Indian population. Indra led Anole and Loa in an attack on the city, against his father's wishes. He even managed to shame Luz into joining them by comparing her to his father.
Luz used her light powers to allow Rogue, Magneto and Vaipala to escape their captors, then surrendered to the Children's leader, Cadena. Meanwhile, Indra and the others were still trying to flee the city. They encountered some drones, which as they were not actually “alive,” Indra could fight. During the escape, Rogue was nearly killed by one of the Children. Indra interjected and grabbed the assailant by the back of the neck and crashed her head into the ground. He considered his actions sinful. The X-Men managed to get free of the city just before it phased out of time and space again permanently removing the illness afflicting the citizens of Mumbai. In the aftermath, Indra opted to not go through with the wedding and rejected his family. He told his father he had tried his path of non-violence but “he could still hear the screams.” Vaipala wished him well and said that they should reconnect the next time he visits home, though he was unsure when that would be. [X-Men: Legacy (1st series) 238-241]Indra's life would yet again change due to a doctrinal shift, this time however it would not be his. Wolverine and Cyclops would split the X-Men in two, with Wolverine creating a new school and Cyclops thinking that they needed to remain a militia. True to his beliefs, Indra opted to side with Wolverine, as his path was intended to be the more peaceful one. Additionally, those he was closest to, such as Loa, Anole and Rogue, also went back to Westchester. [X-Men: Schism #5, X-Men: Regenesis #1]
Wolverine wanted to give the X-kids an opportunity to be, well, kids and at least for Indra he seemed to have delivered on that promise, as he was not involved in any major events while he was a student in the Jean Grey School for Gifted Youngsters. Still, sustained peace for any of the children of the atom could never last. Following the M-Pox crisis, the school relocated to Central Park and Kitty Pryde ascended to the leadership of the X-Men. During an attack by the latest incarnation of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Indra was one of a number of students who offered to join the fray. While Pryde didn't accept his offer, it did demonstrate a shift in personality for the formerly terrified young boy that Paras had been. [X-Men: Gold #3]
When the X-Men entered the Krakoan age, Indra was one of a number of mutants who relocated to the island. Thanks to the efforts of the Five, deceased mutants like Indra former classmate Wind Dancer were given a second chance at life. Possibly witnessing “miracles” such as these prompted Indra to attempt to reconcile with his family and explore his faith again. [X-Factor (4th series) #5] Unfortunately for Indra, he was targeted by the sorceress, Margali Szardos, who mutated him into a giant, feral beast. [Legion of X #9] Indra and the others afflicted were brought to the Savage Land. Fortunately, the spell was undone by the mysterious villain Mother Righteous. Unfortunately, the affected mutants needed to be killed and resurrected first. Indra was presumably killed and resurrected prior to the Hellfire Gala. [X-Men: Before the Fall - Sons of X #1]
Indra was one of the many attendees of the wedding of the somewhat reformed mutant terrorists, Destiny and Mystique. Wolverine wanted some of the students to get the couple bespoke wedding gifts. Indra opted for something very traditional, a bouquet of red roses, though he did save at least for one for Anole, indicating a possible budding romance with his former teammate.
