GWENPOOL

With the surprise success of Spider-Gwen, Marvel Comics produced a series of Gwen Stacy variant covers for their comics, often depicting Gwen Stacy in a mash-up identity with the book's main character. Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars #2 featured a variant known as "Gwenpool". When the idea of Gwenpool received highly positive feedback as well, Marvel introduced her into their universe as a character from the "real world" who knew she was in a comic book, creating one of the most meta stories since Grant Morrison's Animal Man.

In Gwenpool Strikes Back #5, Ms. Marvel questioned Gwen's status as a self-aware comic book character. She suggested instead that perhaps Gwen was a powerful latent mutant whose ability to alter reality only manifested through comic book tropes and metaphors because of Gwen's subconscious direction. Whether this WAS true before, it became true thanks to Gwen's power creating flashback panels of vivid memories which "retconed" Kamala's idea into her actual past. Now, according to Gwen and Krakoa, she is in fact a mutant.
