The ancient enemies of the Arctic Gods, the Great Beasts were banished to the shadow lands a thousand years ago by their nemeses. The barriers weakened in the modern era, however, as one Beast after another made contact with Earth over the first two years of Alpha Flight. They have occasionally freed themselves again and again in times since.
