The Maggia is essentially the Mafia, only with the exotic technology and super-villain henchmen one would expect in the Marvel Universe. Several (ostensibly) cooperative families have appeared over the years, including those run by Silvermane, Hammerhead, Fortunado, and Count Nefaria and his daughter, Madame Masque. The X-Men had an early conflict with Nefaria and the Maggia in X-Men (1st series) #22-23, fighting the villains Unicorn, Plant-Man, Eel, Porcupine and Scarecrow.
