The original X-Terminators were initially the flipside identities of X-Factor. In their guise as mutant hunting humans, the original X-Men operated as X-Factor to get tips on mutants who might need help with their powers and avoiding prejudicial humans. As the X-Terminators, X-Factor reassumed their mutant identities to use their powers openly. During the ruse, they even staged the occasional conflict between X-Factor and the X-Terminators. When X-Factor revealed themselves as publicly-known mutant super-heroes, they retired the name X-Terminators.
