ALTERNATE VERSIONS
In an alternate version of events depicted in What If?.. X-Men: Deadly Genesis, Darwin and his teammates survived their encounter with Krakoa at the cost of the original X-Men’s lives. In the years that passed, Darwin became a long-serving member of the team, with Vulcan going on to be the world’s premier hero. This all fell apart though when Krakoa was discovered in space and the truth about the initial mission on the island was revealed. Whilst Darwin, Sway and Petra saved Cyclops, Vulcan found the rest of the X-Men but accidentally killed Jean and Havok. He murdered the rest in a bid to cover his tracks, with no one else knowing the truth. When it all came out, Vulcan attacked the X-Men, but Darwin used his abilities to depower his friend, turning off his mind’s access to his powers. Vulcan was forced to relive his actions again and again as punishment, whilst Darwin and the rest of the team had to reconcile with the lies they had been told.
