This title had little to do with the original New X-men series and was instead a continuation of the light hearted teen drama in New Mutants (2nd Series). The original writers of that series, Nunzio Defilippis & Christina Weir, continued to write the book for 19 issues with the subtitle, Academy X. After the House of M crossover however, Academy X was dropped from the title and writers Craig Kyle & Chris Yost took the series in a far darker direction. The Decimation resulted in a majority of Xavier's student body losing their powers and being murdered by the Purifiers in a storyline called Childhood's End. The most capable of the remaining students formed a true young X-men squad to be deployed on missions. The series ended with the status quo changing Messiah Complex crossover but some of the characters continued into the new Young X-men series.
