BIOGRAPHY - Page 4

In the weeks that followed, life on Krakoa returned to a semblance of normality as Destiny became reacquainted with the running of the Quiet Council. She found herself working alongside Sinister, with whom she had had dealings in the past, and neither of them trusted each other. [Immortal X-Men #1]

Moira made her play for revenge much sooner than anyone expected and she was determined to burn Krakoa to the ground. Destiny foresaw her return and warned Mystique against acting out, but the shapeshifter didn't listen and was soon killed by Moira. After murdering numerous mutants, Moira made her way to Krakoa, where she confronted Destiny. The precog wasn't as scared as she should have been, as she knew help was on its way in the form of a future version of Wolverine, who had travelled to the past to stop Moira. Moira's plan to destroy Krakoa was stopped but, once again, she slipped away, meaning Destiny needed to keep an eye on the future at all times. [X Deaths of Wolverine #2, 4]

Irene also reconnected with Rogue and made it abundantly clear that she disapproved of her daughter’s recent marriage to Gambit. [X-Men (6th series) #9-10]

Not long after, Destiny was plunged into a psychic coma, having been overwhelmed by an onslaught of pregonative visions. Her mind was reaching outwards as it had first done when she was a child and her powers initially manifested. Only, this time, as she looked across all the possible futures, she saw them all end in death, reality after reality suddenly coming to an abrupt end. Unable to understand what was happening, she inspected one of the longest surviving timelines to figure out what was going on. She saw Sinister squaring off against a God-like Exodus, bragging about his scientific achievements. The moment he died, the timeline ended as well, confusing Destiny for a moment until she realised that he had cloned Moira and her power, and set up a failsafe in the case of his death. Every time he died, Moira was killed and the timeline reset.

Destiny was shocked by what she had seen, but knew that, to stay one step ahead of Sinister in the present, she needed to keep her knowledge a secret. She needed to keep everyone occupied in the short term and the perfect situation was about to arise to do that. Recovering from her psychic episode, she burst into a Quiet Council meeting and informed them that a war was coming to Krakoa and they all needed to prepare. Whilst some were unsure of her true intentions, the council listened to her warning and began to rally the troops.

Afterwards, still shaken by what she had seen across the timelines, she began to write another diary, as she had done so many years before. When Mystique asked to read it, Destiny told her no, and made her promise to keep it safe but not to read it until the time was right. What she declined to tell her wife was that in every timeline she saw Mystique was no longer in it. [Immortal X-Men #3]

The war which Destiny foresaw soon arrived to Krakoa and the mutants found themselves fighting against the Eternals. The secretive race had also mastered the ability to resurrect, but they saw the mutants as Deviants, the sworn enemy of the Eternals. Despite Destiny's warnings, the Eternals hit hard, slaughtering many mutants on Mars as well as unleashing the Hex, enormous Eternals, on Krakoa. Kidnapped by a faction of Eternals looking to put an end to the war, Sinister helped create a new Celestial in the hopes that it would have the ability to stop the Eternals. Instead, the new Celestial called for a judgment on every person on Earth and, if they failed, the planet would be wiped clean.

Sinister managed to make psychic contact with Destiny and inform her that the Celestial had a kill-switch which neither the Avengers nor Eternals wanted to use. In doing so, the Celestial would likely explode and take out most of Iceland, so if the Quiet Council were to sanction a mission to do it then the truth about the consequences would need to be downplayed. Destiny looked at the possible futures and determined the best way to pass the vote would be to wait till Xavier was killed in action. Soon enough he was killed and Destiny called a vote, manipulating the likely outcome of the Celestial's death to gain more votes. It worked and team was successfully sent to the Celestial to kill it, resulting in the destruction of Iceland. However, it was all an illusion cast by the Celestial, and now Destiny's subterfuge had been laid bare for the rest of the council. To make matters worse, the Celestial came to judge Destiny and determined she was not worthy, due to her constant lying to those around her and to herself.

The world failed in its judgement too and the Celestial prepared to end the lives of everyone, mutant and human alike. Destiny saw a small sliver of hope and relayed her plan to them, knowing that she must die in the upcoming battle. As the Celestial began to lay waste to the world, Destiny stayed behind on Krakoa to act as a decoy, whilst a small group of mutants slipped away to act as a resistance. Destiny, Mystique and most of the mutants of Krakoa were killed, but the resistance came through in the end thanks to the sacrifice of the Eternals. The Celestial was stopped and the long process of resurrecting everyone who had fallen began. [A.X.E Judgement Day #1-6, Immortal X-Men #4-7]

With everyone recovering from the Celestial's judgement, the Quiet Council tried to install some order, but Sinister had reached his limit and decided it was time to unleash his secret plan. Having cloned Moira, he was able set a savepoint so that the timeline would reset to if anything went wrong. Destiny knew what something was amiss due to the abrupt end of the timelines and she kept a close eye on Sinister. His goal was to murder the Quiet Council so they could be resurrected with tampered DNA, allowing him to control them. However, every time he tried to kill them, Destiny saw it happen first and warned them, resulting in his death and the death of a Moira. After the timeline was reset, Sinister used a device to see what had previously happened so he could counteract it, but he simply couldn't stay ahead of Destiny. Instead, he tried a different tactic and targeted a select group of the council, which worked this time as Destiny wasn't directly looking out for her own safety. A number of the council were killed and then resurrected with a Sinister gene within them, allowing Sinister to influence events through them. By the time Destiny realized what had happened, it was too late, and so she whisked Mystique away before either of them could be compromised. [Immortal X-Men #9-10]

With the Quiet Council under Sinister's control, things went downhill very quickly. Over the course of ten years, the world's governments fell under his control, whilst any superhero capable of taking him on was disposed of. Destiny had seen the future and she decided it was time to look out for herself and Mystique above all else. Making contact with Storm, she moved to Arakko and joined the Brotherhood, a resistance formed to try and take Sinister down. However, what she neglected to tell Storm was that he ultimate goal was to keep the timeline going as long as possible, because this was the one in which Mystique lived the longest. She was prepared to watch the entire universe tear itself apart, just as long as she and Mystique were together. Arakko was soon destroyed, forcing Destiny and the Brotherhood to set up base on an asteroid, whilst they bided their time.

One problem remained, Sinister's clone farm with the Moira failsafe in it. Destiny manipulated Storm into attacking the base, taking out the defenses and gaining access to Moira. Mystique then betrayed the Brotherhood by stabbing Storm and absconding with the clone, so that no-one could kill it and reset the timeline. Destiny and Mystique hid away for decades whilst the galaxy fell apart around them. Eventually, Mystique grew restless and left Destiny against her wishes to join the rebellion against Sinister. Mystique was killed soon after, leaving Destiny alone to contemplate the future. After a hundred years had passed since Sinister first made his move, Destiny begrudgingly made contact with Storm once again, only this time she declared she wanted to kill Moira for real. Destiny had lost control of the Moira clone years before, and so she joined forces with the Brotherhood to destroy the base it was being held on. With Destiny's help, the group made it into the base and were primed to blow up the lab, but it was now Storm's turn to betray Destiny. Not wanting to wipe out an entire timeline, Storm had Destiny killed and stole the clone for herself.

Nine hundred years passed and Sinister's cloning attempts reached new levels and spread across the universe. Numerous factions rose that wanted to kill the Moira clone and reset reality, but surprisingly the one who succeeded was a robotic version of the original Moira. In the blink of an eye, Sinister's future was wiped out and reality was taken back one thousand years to the moment the Quiet Council was originally attacked. Still reeling from the deaths of the council members, Destiny was suddenly overcome with psychic visions as the future was now opening up once again. As if on cue Rasputin, one of Sinister's chimera clones from the future, appeared with an imprisoned Sinister in tow.

She told them about the future she came from and Sinister's part in creating it. Destiny revealed she knew about the clone of Moira but was unable to say anything at the time as she needed to try and outmaneuver him. To confuse matters even more, a mysterious woman named Mother Righteous appeared and corroborated Rasputin's story. Whilst the timelines were now more open to Destiny, she felt there was something amiss with reality, though but she couldn't see what it was. [Sins of Sinister crossover]

Thanks to evidence from both Mother Righteous and Rasputin, the Sinister future was explained to the Quiet Council in great detail. Due to that, the Council soon became aware of Destiny's actions in the timeline and she became the focus of some awkward questions. Since she had no recollection herself of her future counterpart's actions, she could only guess as to why she made the choices she did. In a confrontation between herself and Storm, Destiny smugly defended her actions and surmised that she manipulated events that led to the ultimate destruction of the timeline. Storm wasn't convinced and pushed for a truthful answer, but Destiny refused to say she had done it all for Mystique.

Mystique was also after answers, as she had been handed a recording of Destiny from the Sinister timeline that explained why she had chosen to keep the dystopian future running. Mystique was furious that Destiny would go to those lengths to keep her protected and constantly make it her mission to save her.

Destiny couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong with the timeline and she was proved right when Mystique suddenly murdered her. Destiny was quickly resurrected, and Mystique was beside herself, as she had no idea what made her do it. Unbeknownst to her, Sebastian Shaw had been working behind the scenes with Mother Righteous to remove her voting rights from the Quiet Council. As a highly skilled sorceress, Mother Righteous had used her magics to control Mystique's actions. As Hope Summers and Xavier were still potentially compromised with Sinister DNA, any mutant they resurrected could be tainted too. A vote had been undertaken earlier to remove the voting rights of anyone who might be compromised by Sinister, and now Destiny fell into that category. Destiny still couldn't see the bigger picture, but she knew someone else out there was manipulating the council for their own ends. [Immortal X-Men #11-12]
