COSTUME GALLERY
1) Cassandra Nova’s first costume was one of practicality, given her trek through the rainforest. Nonetheless, it became her iconic look. A functional tan pant suit and jacket with a yellow button-down shirt. She adorned a British style pith helmet, often worn by hunters and explorers of the jungle. Her knee-high boots were brown and pants expanded out a bit at the thighs. [New X-Men (1st series) #114]
2) When Cassandra took over the body of her brother Charles Xavier and returned to destroy the X-Men, she wore absolutely no costume. Rather than clothes, she revealed her true Mummudrai form of a monstrous, lumbering, psychic mass surrounding her human body. This blue plasm took the shape of a many-armed creature, with a gaped-toothed maw. It stood around a dozen feet tall on shambling, bulbous feet, as what appeared to be skin seemingly dripped down in fatty pustules. [New X-Men (1st series) #122]
3) A return to her classic look was in order when Cassandra reappeared in a body that had somehow reincorporated. The only major difference with this suit was that it was more brown than tan, her shirt was now white, and the boots were black. Also, she went hat-less, embracing her baldness. [X-Men Red (1st series) #4]
4) A slight tweak to her wardrobe soon occurred, with the pants now a more traditional form-fitting cut. Her shirt was gray and the jacket now flowed more open and freely. [X-Men Red (1st series) #11]
5) Her first superhero costume came with her drafting onto the Krakoan Marauders team. She appeared both with and without her new helmet, which looked to be a busier version of Xavier’s Cerebro helmet design. This one was less bulky but had two tall, antler-looking pieces that really increased the height of the silver headpiece. It also had a visor that seemingly would block vision but perhaps compensated with a boost to her psychic senses. The rest of her costume included a yellow vest over a black-and-yellow long-sleeved top that had gray shoulder pads. The bottom resembled her classic tan suit pants, but her black boots looked more combat ready. [Marauders (2nd series) #6]
6) Very briefly, Cassandra found herself encased in an alien symbiote, giving her the appearance of a female Venom. This was complete with long, black, fleshy tentacles, a large prehensile tongue poking through sharp teeth, and a bird insignia in place of the classic spider one, given the connection of this symbiote to the Shi’ar. [Marauders (2nd series) #5]
7) When the Marauders went back in time, the whole team wore these protective suits to protect themselves and the past from harmful germs. The white and gray wet suit included a clear faceplate to see through the helmet and even had her name, Nova, inscribed on her legs to be able to tell the identically dressed team members apart. On the chest was the Marauders’ skull insignia and the design of the helmet also resembled a skull. [Marauders (2nd series) #9]
