Nanny and Orphan Maker weren’t alone in the Pit; many others had been sent there for their own crimes, including Sabretooth. However, when Sabretooth escaped, Cypher gathered all the other citizens of the Pit and set them free on the condition they hunt Sabretooth and stop him returning to Krakoa. [Sabretooth (3rd series) #5]
Calling themselves the Exiles, the team tracked Sabretooth down to a mysterious island, where they found he was being held inside an Orchis base. By now Nanny and Peter had slipped into their old dynamic again, with her overbearing nature dictating his every movement. The two stayed on their boat whilst the rest of the team explored the island, but the Orchis forces soon discovered them. One of the scientists, Dr. Barrington, scanned Orphan Maker and realized how powerful he could be. She ordered her forces to distract the rest of the team whilst one of her experimental soldiers knocked Peter out and absconded with him.
Taking Peter to another base, Dr. Barrington tried everything she could to get his armor off, not realizing he was listening to her the whole time. After watching her struggle, he informed her the only way to remove it was if he did it himself, but he wasn’t going to do it because Nanny had ordered him not to. Realizing he had a stunted mental state, Dr. Barrington altered her tactics and began to tell him stories of people who always gave her orders and how she wished she could defy them. Not realizing he was being tricked, Peter empathized with her and then had the great idea to do what he wanted instead of what Nanny told him. With that, he removed his helmet and unleashed his powers, severely injuring Dr. Barrington in the process. One of the Orchis super soldiers was nearby and was able to get Peter’s helmet back on before anyone else was hurt. The damage was done, though, and Peter’s powers had manifested and the armor was struggling to contain them.
Nanny and the rest of the team arrived and, with time running out, one of them had the idea to transport all their minds to the astral plane so they had more time to come up with a plan. Once there, they discovered Orchis had built a base to conduct psychic experiments and mine for precious resources. The team broke into the base and used its facilities to craft Peter a new suit of armor, which they managed to transport back to the real world again. Peter’s dangerous power was contained once more and, in the process, the team managed to rescue hundreds of mutants on whom Orchis had been experimenting. [Sabretooth and the Exiles #1-3]
The Exiles had learned that Orchis had a number of bases spread across the planet, which were being used to experiment on mutants. Discovering the location of one, the team found that it contained six mutant babies, something which angered Nanny. As the team broke into the base, they realized the babies’ X-genes had been activated and the children were lashing out at every adult around them. Nanny had an idea and used some of her old technology to revert the rest of the team’s minds to an infant-like state. Sensing that there weren’t any adult minds around them, the babies calmed down long enough for Nanny to save them. With the rest of the team’s minds still child-like, Nanny and Peter took the babies onto their own ship and flew away. Eventually, the Exiles’ minds reverted to normal again, at which point they realized Nanny had betrayed them and taken the children. [Sabretooth and the Exiles #4-5]
Unable to return to Krakoa, Nanny and Peter are once again on their own, just as they like it. What will happen with the mutant babies remains to be seen, but with Nanny's warped sense of love nothing good can come from it.
