Surprisingly, the Vanisher decided to remain on X-Force after defeating Selene, even though several other team members quit. When the mutant messiah Hope returned from the future, X-Force was enlisted in defending her against Bastion's anti-mutant hordes. Telford waited in San Francisco with Domino on standby. Unfortunately for him, Bastion's plans for eliminating Hope and the X-Men required that he neutralize each of the X-Men's teleporters. Telford happened to overhear Cyclops relaying this intel to Domino over her communicator. Unsurprisingly, Telford panicked and decided to abandon the X-Men while he still had a chance. Despite Domino's violent protestations, he retreated to his safe house in Portugal. Unfortunately for him, Bastion had anticipated this move. Telford arrived home to find his prostitutes all dead, and Steven Lang—the same Steven Lang who once kidnapped and experimented on him—waiting for him. Lang and his Purifiers riddled the Vanisher with bullets. He teleported away, but his wounds were so severe by the time he escaped that he collapsed in a ditch on the side of the road and lost consciousness, seemingly dead. [Second Coming crossover]

Somehow, Telford soon reappeared among the ranks of the living. He made no effort to contact the X-Men after leaving them to Bastion's mercy, nor they him. Through means unknown, he fell in with Chimera and the Marauders and, under the grip of the villainess Susan Hatchi's mind control, ambushed the X-Men in New York City. The X-Man Karma, however, broke the hold over the Marauders, at which point they fled—albeit only after some confusion. Shortly thereafter, Hatchi forced her pawns to kill each other, but both the Vanisher and Chimera escaped. [Astonishing X-Men (3rd series) #48-50]

Vanisher remained a criminal-for-hire, living from job to job. He was hired by Cain Marko to teleport him to Korea when the Temple of Cyttorak called out for new Juggernaut candidates, but teleported away quickly to avoid the chaos. [Amazing X-Men (2nd series) #16-17] He also stayed associated with Scalphunter and the other Marauders, willing to work with them on jobs-for-hire. [Deadpool v. Gambit #4] Vanisher took a job with Ezekiel Stane, working with him to destabilize the rule of T’Challa over Wakanda in favor of a band of rebels. He served as Stane’s exit strategy when the revolution got too hot. [Black Panther (6th series) #7, 12] Using his contacts from this gig, Vanisher became a Vibranium smuggler, selling quantities of the exotic metal on the black market to Cardiac and others through the Bar With No Name. He was tracked and defeated by Kasper Cole, who turned him over to Wakandan authorities. [Black Panther: World of Wakanda #6]

Later on, Vanisher was recruited by Emma Frost to help her rebuild the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club. Vanisher adapted easily to a life of luxury, working with Emma for mutants to build an institution of their own while the X-Men dealt with the dirty work battling Sentinels and the like. Unfortunately, the Office of National Emergency began making aggressive actions towards the mutant community. General Robert Callahan and the O*N*E assaulted the Club and took Emma and Vanisher prisoner. They were forced to work for Callahan after he installed a “gene bomb” in each of their heads to keep these assets in line. When Emma strained against her leash, Callahan had Vanisher killed using the gene bomb as an example to her. [Uncanny X-Men (5th series) #19]

Vanisher was among the many mutants brought back to life on Krakoa thanks to the Resurrection Five. However, he may have been among the 33 mutants killed again within weeks of Krakoa’s announcement to the world when Reavers attacked the island in retaliation for the human world. [X-Force (6th series) #1-2] Perhaps because of this, Vanisher soon took a position off-island working for S.W.O.R.D., the interstellar organization representing Earth to the greater universe, with deep ties to Krakoa in this new form. As part of the Logistics division, Vanisher became a member of the Teleport Team along with Lila Cheney, Blink, Gateway and Amelia Voght. They served as the first stage of a two-part mutant technology circuit to mine the multiverse. Vanisher’s power is combined with the other teleporters to bring the S.W.O.R.D. Six to the edge of known space, at which point Eden Fesi carried the Six themselves beyond the edge of space to harvest the exotic matter, Mysterium. [S.W.O.R.D. (2nd series) #1]

A steady job with minimum risk and a small bit of renown… it’s likely Vanisher will remain loyal and comfortable with Krakoa for the foreseeable future.
