150 years in the future shown in the storyline Here Comes Tomorrow, Wolverine had hardly changed despite the downfall of civilization around him. Wolverine and an inter-species team of X-Men stood as the last line of defense against the entity known as Sublime and his horde of genetically-engineered monstrosities. They faced extinction when Sublime acquired the Phoenix Egg and unleashed a confused Jean Grey to eliminate the deadwood in the evolutionary branches. Logan apparently died fighting Sublime but not before reaching Jean’s real personality beneath the Phoenix visage. Logan's sacrifice was not in vain, as Jean reached back in time from the White Hot Room to prevent the rise of Sublime’s apocalyptic reality.

When X-Men: The End opened, Wolverine had been retired from the X-Men for nearly a decade. Storm began suffering from neurological decay years earlier due to her powers, leaving her virtually immobilized physically. Logan was caring for her daily needs at their escape in the Kimanu Highlands when all the old X-Men psychically felt the resurrection of the Phoenix. Although they initially tried to stay out of it, Logan and Ororo were pulled back into the thick of things when a Warskrull disguised as Yukio tried to murder them both. When another band of Warskrulls destroyed the mansion in an anti-matter reaction, Wolverine and Storm joined the survivors to formulate a defense against their opponents.

Wolverine pulled together M, X-23, and Marvel Girl to hunt for missing members of X-Force. They hunted Mister Sinister and his new Marauders down to their hideaway, and Logan managed to overcome the debilitating illusions of the Ladies Mastermind. His squad succeeded in rescuing several prisoners and eliminate Sinister himself, but Logan was critically wounded fighting Shaitan, and was sidelined for the final struggle against the Shi'ar and Cassandra Nova. He was there in spirit however, literally, as the Phoenix drew upon the passion and strength of her friends to bring an end to Cassandra's threat and a new form of life into the universe. Twenty years later, Logan attended a speech given by President Katherine Pryde in honor of Charles Xavier and his dream.

In the Days of Future Now limited series, another version of the DOFP future came to pass. These events arose out of the War of the Weapon X Programs, and Malcolm Colcord's personal hatred of Wolverine. After the apparent deaths of his rivals Brent Jackson and John Sublime, Colcord resumed control of the Program and began mass producing Sentinel mutant hunters with the help of the technoformer Madison Jeffries and his A.I. companion, Bot. The Neverland mutant containment facilities were also reopened. Wolverine made an attempt on Colcord's life, but the director somehow survived and stormed the mansion a year later with his Weapon X agents and Sentinels. The Sentinels killed Professor X and nearly all of the X-Men at this point, incapacitating Wolverine as well. The Sentinels then turned on Colcord's own Weapon X agents, however, killing them and proceeding to carry out their programming to eliminate all mutants. Logan eventually recovered, and gathered a brand-new and deadly team of X-Men to strike back against the Sentinel manufacturing plants. They did some damage, but Colcord eventually recovered the means of accessing post-hypnotic triggers in the mind of Agent Zero, one of Wolverine's new X-Men, and used him to virtually wipe out Logan's team. Zero ultimately killed himself before he could complete his mission and eliminate Wolverine as well. Several years later, Logan had once again reformed the X-Men with a collection of old allies and enemies. He and Carol Danvers had even gotten married. Times were bad for mutants, though, with the Sentinels fully in control of New York and moving on to the rest of the world. Magneto tried and failed to revitalize the mutant cause by publicly sacrificing Earth's super-heroes, but this wasn't enough. Eventually, after the deaths of Carol, Magneto, and so many others, Wolverine led a final assault on the Sentinels, in an attempt to recapture Rachel Summers and use her to undo their timeline, much like she did with Kate Pryde in the original Days storyline. Despite the last minute help of Brent Jackson and Malcolm Colcord, however, this plan apparently failed, leaving Sentinels in charge of the world and mutantkind all but wiped out.

In the reality that becomes home to the Marvel Zombies, Wolverine's life was much the same as the Logan of Earth 616 until the zombie plague hit. The X-Men were targeted by Alpha Flight, who were among the first to succumb to the zombie infection. The X-Men were saved by Magneto and banded together with other heroes to try and stop the planet from being overwhelmed. Sadly, not even Wolverine's healing factor could counter the plague and he was eventually overtaken by a handful of turned heroes and infected. As a zombie, Wolverine was just as formidable as he was in life and survived many battles as the world's remaining heroes tried to save their planet. The zombies triumphed but had to get creative when their food supply ran thin. Zombie Wolverine was among those who fed on the Silver Surfer and gained a bit of the Power Cosmic. This led to a feeding frenzy on the Skrulls and eventually Galactus himself. In the end, Wolverine's healing factor played a key role in stopping the zombies. It was incorporated into a nanite-based cure that was infused with the Sandman, who engulfed the remaining zombies including Wolverine, finally ending their reign of terror.

In one of the broken realities monitored by the Timebreakers, Wolverine became the subject of a plot by the Brotherhood of Mutants. The Scarlet Warlock attempted to make his mother Magneto more powerful by hexing Wolverine’s Adamantium skeleton into Magneto’s body. The effect grew out of control, however, and Magneto and Wolverine ended up completely merging with one another, along with Mesmero, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Warlock. The result was an extremely powerful human-hating mass murderer renamed Brother Mutant.

The Timebreakers’ probability computers identified the solution to the problem as simply, “Wolverine”, and so they sent one team of Wolverine alternates after another into that reality. Unfortunately, some were killed and most were mesmerized by Brother Mutant into serving his cause. The last Wolverine Team the bugs sent included young James Howlett moments after his power manifestation, General Logan from the Days of Future Past reality, a still feral Weapon X, Zombie Wolverine, Patch from Madripoor, and the Wolverine android clone Albert with his friend Elsie Dee. Even this crew was overmatched and General Logan eventually convinced the Timebreakers to teleport him and James back to the Crystal Palace to form an actual strategy beyond throwing more Wolverines at Brother Mutant. They joined forces with the original Exiles and eventually overpowered Brother Mutant and killed him, although only young James survived the experience out of all the Logans.

In the future of Old Man Logan, the villains of the Marvel Universe finally united as never before and launched a massive coordinated strike against the heroes. Their attack on Wolverine was more insidious than mere death. Thanks to the hallucinogenic gases and special effects wizardry of Mysterio, Logan believed he was valiantly carving his way through 40 super-villains, when in reality he had murdered Jubilee and the rest of his fellow X-Men. Broken as never before by the horrors of what he had done, Wolverine stumbled out onto a train track and lay his head across the rails. It was said that Wolverine died that day, but Logan lived on as a pacifist, and didn’t pop his claws for decades to come.

Fifty years later, America was still under the villains’ control. Logan took a wife named Maureen, and worked his farm in California with their two children, Scotty and Jade. California was under the dominion of a crazed old Bruce Banner and his in-bred grandchildren, the Hulk Gang. When Logan failed to meet his rent one month, the Hulk Gang beat him severely and threatened to return next month for double the money. In order to get the money he needed, Logan agreed to a cross-country drive with blind old Hawkeye to New Babylon. Their simple journey led to struggles with the Kingpin, cannibalistic Moloids and finally the president himself, the Red Skull. Hawkeye was killed, but Logan beat the Skull and gathered the money he needed. He desperately flew back to California as fast as he could go, only to find his wife and children dead in their home. The Hulk Gang got bored, and came two weeks early.

And with that, Wolverine was reborn.

Wolverine ripped his way through all of Banner’s gamma-irradiated offspring. He murdered the entire family line before making his way to Banner himself. By this point, Banner’s strength was impressive even in his un-transformed state, and the sadist old fool got a kick out of reliving his glory days of fighting with Wolverine. In fact, he had ordered his kin to collect on the Logans early, just to push his old sparring partner back into action. Wolverine wasn’t playing, however, and continued clawing through Banner even after he finally transformed into a gargantuan Hulk. Wolverine eventually won by slicing his way out from inside the Hulk’s gullet after Banner tried to eat him. In the aftermath, Wolverine decided to bring law back to the lawless land America had become. He rode off into the sunset with his new adopted son and the last survivor of the Hulk Gang, the infant Bruce Banner Jr.
