Former Students

Students come and students go, especially given all the drama of being a mutant and at the Xavier Institute in particular. Below is a list of former students of the Xavier Institute; some left the school willingly, other were forced or find themselves incapacitated by outside circumstances.

Beak (Barnell Bohusk) First appearance: New X-Men #117

All Xavier Institute appearances: New X-Men #117, 119, 125-126, 131, 135-138, 140-141, 146-150, Exiles #48

Powers: animal mutation gives him heightened vision, agility, and reaction time, a pointed beak, and feathered wings that fold up along his forearms or extend to allow limited flight

Notes:
- Beak received a commendation at the Institute’s first prize-giving ceremony for his heroism.
- Beak became romantically involved with his classmate Angel Salvatore and she became pregnant. They have at least six offspring who all possess both bird-like and fly-like physical characteristics to varying degrees.
- Beak was recently drafted into the group of dimension-hopping mutants known as the Exiles. He has since proven instrumental in unraveling the truth behind the team’s mysterious “sponsor”, the Timebroker. [Exiles #48]

Carter Ghazikhanian First appearance: Uncanny X-Men #411

All Xavier Institute appearances: Uncanny X-Men #411, 413, 417-422, 425-426, 429-434, X-Men (2nd series) #161, 163, 164, X-Men Unlimited (1st series) #44, Chamber #4, Exiles #28-30

Powers: strong potential for telepathic and telekinetic abilities

Notes:
- Carter and his mother left the Institute in X-Men (2nd series) #164, in part due to the danger that pervaded the Institute. At the time, Carter was in the presence of a female “imaginary friend” who appeared to be a malevolent psionic presence.

Glob Herman First appearance: New X-Men #117

All Xavier Institute appearances: New X-Men #117, 122, 134-138, New Mutants #11 [flashback only]

Powers: physically composed of mutated bio-paraffin, a form of living wax, which augments his strength, speed, and resilience by increasing his mass, decreasing friction, and padding his internal organs from assault, and can also be flicked off his body in tiny rivulets of wax

Notes:
- Glob Herman was injured after setting himself aflame and going on a rampage. When he recovered from these injuries, he was sent to a human jail to atone for the crimes he committed as a member of the Omega Gang.
- Glob has yet to return to the Xavier Institute. Several background characters depicted in New Mutants (2nd series) and New X-Men: Academy X have had jelly-like appearances but it has been confirmed that they were not Glob Herman.

Kid Omega (Quentin Quire) First appearance: New X-Men #134

All Xavier Institute appearances: New X-Men #134-138

Powers: advanced telepathic and cognitive abilities enable him to process data at high speeds, construct and formulate his thoughts with vast quantity and quality, project ideas and impressions into the minds of others, disable existing psychic phenomena, and naturally shield him from psychic assaults

Notes:
- Following his defeat by the Stepford Cuckoos, Quentin underwent a physical transformation as the next stage in his evolution. This left him a disembodied psychic entity that was contained in Henry McCoy’s laboratory. [New X-Men #138]
- Quentin Quire recently resumed a physical form and attempted to use the Phoenix Force to resurrect his lost “love”, Sophie. This plan ultimately failed and Quentin returned to his non-physical state. [X-Men Phoenix: Endsong #1-5]

Radian First appearance: New X-Men #126

All Xavier Institute appearances: New X-Men #126, 135-138

Powers: generates intense levels of thermal energy from his lower arms, superheating them so that his hands can burn or melt anything he touches

Notes:
- Redneck was sent to a human jail in New X-Men #138 to atone for the crimes he committed as a member of the Omega Gang.

Tattoo First appearance: New X-Men #126

All Xavier Institute appearances: New X-Men #126, 134-138
