Lower School

Only students over the age of fifteen are inducted as part of a training squad. Those students who are too young to participate in this level of training are taught in the Institute’s “lower school”. Since the younger students in the “Lower School” have not yet been assigned to training squads, they likely do not have assigned codenames yet either. These students are all currently advised by Xi’an Coy Manh, aka Karma. Karma also serves as the Institute’s librarian.

First appearance: New X-Men: Academy X #9

Current Membership: Jeffrey Garrett, Leong Coy Manh, Nga Coy Manh

Jeffrey Garrett First appearance: X-Treme X-Men #20

All Xavier Institute appearances: X-Treme X-Men #20-23, New X-Men: Academy X #7-9, 14

Powers: organically defined teleportation power is able to produce a transportation effect that is only capable of displacing living matter, following his death and current existence as a ghost, this limitation no longer applies

Notes:
- Jeffrey Garrett's death occurred behind the scenes due to events depicted in New X-Men #147 and was fully revealed in New X-Men: Academy X #7. He remains at the school as a ghost.
- It is possible that his astral essence somehow survived his physical death in the same fashion that other mutants have transferred their “essence” following their death or major physical trauma (Jean Grey, Emma Frost) or survived as a purely psionic force (Shadow King, Malice).
- In his initial appearances, Jeffrey seemed a bit older than in his post-death appearances. He was also romantically linked with Andrea Margulies, aka Rubbermaid of Alpha Squadron.

Leong Coy Manh First appearance: Marvel Team-Up (1st series) #100

All Xavier Institute appearances: New Mutants (2nd series) #4-5, New X-Men: Academy X #9

Powers: currently none;

  • As Template: symbiotic psionic power allows the twins to influence their victims, mentally and physically regressing them to obedient children;
  • As Nanite: possessed animated skin and was able to control its form and motion or detect portions of it and regenerate new skin

Notes:
- Leong and his sister have been aged to adulthood and manifested mutant powers on two separate occasions. When aged by Mojo, they took the name “Template” and possessed symbiotic powers. After being manipulated by Spiral via her Body Shoppe, Leong called himself Nanite and possessed an independent set of powers.

Nga Coy Manh First appearance: Marvel Team-Up (1st series) #100

All Xavier Institute appearances: New Mutants (2nd series) #4-5, New X-Men: Academy X #9

Powers: currently none;

  • As Template: symbiotic psionic power allows the twins to influence their victims, mentally and physically regressing them to obedient children;
  • As Replica: tactile absorption of DNA patterns, allowing her to grow a new body for herself out of the cyber-morphic shell on her back based on the replicated genetic codes

Notes:
- Nga and her brother have been aged to adulthood and manifested mutant powers on two separate occasions. When aged by Mojo, they took the name “Template” and possessed symbiotic powers. After being manipulated by Spiral via her Body Shoppe, Nga called herself Replica and possessed an independent set of powers.
