In Memoriam / Deceased Students
Since the Xavier Institute was re-established, it has been plagued by violence. The school was disrupted by a violent student-led riot, demolished by Xorn/Magneto, attacked by the Brotherhood of Mutants and decimated by Wolverine while under the thrall of Hydra! During these episodes, there were several fatalities. Listed here are those students who died while enrolled at the Xavier Institute.

Powers: produces narrow-band photonic energy from his single eye, controlled by a mechanical implant to produce strobe pulses of light that temporarily paralyze anyone caught in its glare

- Basilisk was killed by Xorn I/”Magneto” who used excessive force to prove a point while under the influence of Kick. [New X-Men #149]

Powers: exists as an astral intelligence housed in a shapeless gas form, keeps himself in a containment suit that approximates human proportions for him
Notes:
- Dummy’s gaseous form was fully released when his special containment suit was pierced by flying glass during the riot at Xavier’s depicted in New X-Men #137. He has yet to re-form and is presumed dead or dissipated beyond return.

Powers: heat-casting power allows him to create flames from his hands
Notes:
- Germaine was romantically involved with Mindee, one of the Stepford Cuckoos.
- He was killed by a riotous mob in Salem Center that gathered in response to Xorn I/”Magneto’s” destruction of Manhattan.

Powers: sublimation effect caused his body to break down into an intangible gaseous state
Notes:
- Jacob’s discorporation was similar to what happened to Kitty Pryde following an injury she sustained during the Mutant Massacre. Her condition was corrected by Dr. Doom and Reed Richards in the X-Men vs. Fantastic Four Limited series.

Powers: aquatic mutation covers his body with scales and fins, enables him to breathe underwater, and coats his eyes with a special membrane allowing him to see in the murky depths
Notes:
- Sammy was good friends with Carter Ghazikhanian and Nicholas Gleason and was especially close to the Juggernaut.
- Sammy was briefly roommates with Jay Guthrie, aka Icarus.
- Sammy was killed by Black Tom Cassidy in X-Men (2nd series) #162.
Stepford Cuckoos (Esme “Stepford”) First appearance: New X-Men #118

Powers: part of a telepathic hive mind, which allows her and her sisters working together to manipulate vast amounts of telepathic power, in order to read the minds of others, project their thoughts psionically, manipulate perceptions of reality, and assume control of another person’s actions and thoughts
Notes:
- Esme was the true culprit in the attempted murder of Emma Frost. She was working with Xorn I/”Magneto” when she planned the murder and psionically forced Angel Salvadore to shoot Emma.
- Esme was killed by Xorn I/”Magneto” who used her to the destroy Xavier Institute and take over Manhattan.

- When Wing first tried to land after flying, he broke both his legs.

- Wing committed suicide inside a Danger Room simulation of the campus in Astonishing X-Men #7.
