Following the murder of Cable during a time when the X-Men were under threat from the deadly Ahab, who was hunting the time-displaced original X-Men, Boom-Boom was called to the Xavier Institute for Mutant Education and Outreach in Central Park, New York, to assist with the dangers. To protect the time-displaced X-Men, the young mutants were separated, with Boom-Boom and her former X-Force teammates charged with protecting the young Marvel Girl. However, Boom-Boom and the others had another mission to accomplish too: they were going to hunt down Cable's killer – a younger version of himself.
During the flight to Cable's murderer's location, Shatterstar was put under Ahab's control as one of his Hounds. So as not to jeopardize the mission, Cable took Shatter star and flew away, leaving Boom-Boom, Domino, Warpath and Marvel Girl to break into the young Cable's hideout. Boom-Boom fought the younger Cable, until a truce was called when Marvel Girl entered his mind to determine that he was not the enemy they thought he was. Despite her initial reservations, Boom-Boom worked alongside the younger Cable, and the group joined up with the other mutants battling Ahab. During this battle, Boom-Boom was briefly transformed into one of Ahab's Hounds and attacked Warpath and Domino. Eventually, Ahab was defeated, Boom-Boom recovered from the mind-control and attended Cable's funeral once the time-displaced X-Men were returned to their true time era. [Extermination #2-5]
The original X-Force members decided to remain working together, Boom-Boom included, and once again set out to track down the young Cable. Tabby took her love of sleeping to the next level when she failed to show up for the mission. She woke the next morning and quickly arrived at the warehouse where her teammates had earlier investigated an anti-mutant terrorist group with whom they discovered Kid Cable had met. Tabby found one of the terrorists still conscious within the warehouse and questioned him. When he attacked her, Tabby defended herself and, in the process, blew up the warehouse – with the terrorists inside it. She repeatedly tried calling her teammates, but never got a response from them.
Tabby eventually tracked her teammates to a mutant refugee center on the Romanian/Transian border and assisted them in defeating large, military robots. Tabby joined her teammates in protecting the mutant refugees of Transia, whose tyrannical leader wanted them slaughtered. [X-Force (5th series) #1, 3-4] Tabby began to lose faith in the new X-Force team when Kid Cable was kidnaped and taken through a time portal by Stryfe, leaving X-Force stranded in Transia. When she confided in the injured Warpath that she should have stayed in New York, Warpath tried to encourage her not to give up. Eventually, the time portal was able to be restarted simply by Tabby throwing one of her time-bombs into the engine, and X-Force stepped through the portal so they could go into the future to rescue Kid Cable. The mission was a success and, as a bonus, they also rescued Rachel Summers, who had been missing since Ahab's assault weeks before. [X-Force (5th series) #7-10]
When the mutant super-nation of Krakoa was established, Boom-Boom relocated to the island home of mutantkind. There she took up residence in the Akademos Habitat, alongside other former New Mutants and an even younger generations of mutants as well. Unfortunately for Tabby, most of the other former New Mutants left her behind when they went on an adventure into space. Bored, Boom-Boom began rummaging through Sunspot's room to steal some of his valuables, where she was discovered by Armor, who needed Sunspot's help with some Krakoan medicine that she wanted to give to Beak's father, who was dying of cancer. Desperate for some adventure, Boom-Boom agreed to look into getting the medicine, although she wasn't that keen on visiting Nebraska, where Beak was living with his family. After providing Armor with the medicine, Boom-Boom proceeded to party hard and drink a lot. However, when she discovered that Armor had not returned to Krakoa with Beak and his mutant children, she walked through a Krakoan gate to Nebraska (despite being drunk) and stepped straight into a dangerous situation. She arrived among several younger mutants who were trying to protect Beak and his family from some anti-mutant thugs who were holding Beak's parents hostage in exchange for the “miracle” mutant drugs. Despite her intoxication, Boom-Boom easily took out several of the thugs and helped resolve the situation. Unfortunately, Beak's father was killed in the process by one of the thugs. [New Mutants (4th series) #3-4, 6]
Tabby struggled with what happened in Nebraska and, to help take her mind off what happened to Beak's father, Magma dragged Boom-Boom to Nova Roma to investigate some monsters who had been hunting mutants. In the process, they rescued several mutants that the Brazilian government were preventing from traveling to Krakoa and defeat the strange monsters (although they never uncovered the source of the monsters). [New Mutants (4th series) #8]
When the other New Mutants returned from space, Tabby was initially slightly hostile towards them, blaming them for leaving her behind when they went to space (despite being told that they tried to wake her). Tabby accompanied several of the New Mutants to the nation of Carnelia, a nation that did not recognize Krakoa as a sovereign nation and where a young mutant had just developed her powers and was in danger. Boom-Boom was instrumental in the rescue of the young mutant, whose dangerous powers were out of control. Using Russian she had learned in her youth, Boom-Boom was able to communicate with the local military in order to negotiate with them and try to explain that the New Mutants were there to help. When the young mutant was calmed down, Boom-Boom was also able to speak with her and to assure her that she was safe. [New Mutants (4th series) #9-11]
Following these missions, Boom-Boom began to feel out-of-sorts and contemplated taking some time off. One of her diary entries indicated that she was thinking of returning to Nova Roma to investigate the mysterious monsters. However, her next adventure reunited her with Cable and Cannonball, and along with Lila Cheney, Wiz-Kid and Khora of the Burning Heart, and took them into space.
Boom-Boom wanted to call the team X-Force but settled for the All-New X-Terminators. The mission involved fighting Breakworlders and venturing into a city on Breakworld that was actually an entire weapon. Boom-Boom appeared pleased to be working with Cannonball again and asked him if he missed the old days – before he became a husband and father. Boom-Boom's main role on the mission was to create a massive plasma time-bomb, which was amplified by Khora, which Cannonball would then deliver into the living weapon city. The team retrieved what they needed from the city and returned to Krakoa. [Cable: Reloaded #1]
Tabby soon found herself working alongside a group of mutants who missed out on joining the new heroic X-Men team, which included several of her former teammates like Sunspot, Cannonball and Strong Guy on a mission that took her into deep space to find the missing Empress of the Shi'ar Empire, Xandra. Boom-Boom proved herself particularly adept on the space mission, and her explosive powers came in handy when the mutants battled the alien Sidri. The mission was a success in terms of Xandra being rescued, but Xandra's aunt Deathbird, who had taken her in the first place, was abducted by the Sidri in turn. Following the adventure, however, Xandra erased the memories of it from Boom-Boom and the others returned to Krakoa none the wiser for being Xandra’s “Secret X-Men.” [Secret X-Men #1]
