Kwannon was buried in Wolverine’s private cemetery in Akihabara, Japan, However several years later, her corpse was stolen by members of the Sisterhood, a covert organization of several of the X-Men’s deadliest villainesses. After Spiral repaired Revanche’s decaying body as much as possible, the Sisterhood’s leader, Madelyne Pryor, performed a magical spell that infused the corpse with the life-force of Psylocke, whom the Sisterhood had captured earlier. Once again among the living, Kwannon was also magically bound to obey Madelyne’s every command as were the other members of her Sisterhood. However, Madelyne had no specific need of Kwannon’s skills. Resurrecting Revanche was merely a test run for Madelyne, who planned to repeat the ritual to place her own consciousness in the re-animated remains of Jean Grey. [Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #508-509]

While Madelyne tried to carry out her plan (only to ultimately fail), Kwannon and several others engaged the X-Men, providing a necessary distraction. Revanche managed to fight Wolverine to a standstill but was eventually struck by a full-force laser blast from Dazzler. Half of Kwannon’s face was burned away and she was severely weakened, allowing Psylocke’s spirit to briefly take over. Betsy made Revanche use her telepathic knife on herself, frying her already-damaged brain even further. On the astral plane, the two psyches battled for a final time, with Revanche vowing to take Betsy along with her if she had to die again. Despite these threats, Psylocke’s mind proved to be the stronger one and her essence returned to the Asian body as Kwannon perished. [Uncanny X-Men (1st series) #510-511]

A second burial was denied to Kwannon, as operatives of the Hand incinerated her corpse with explosives when Psylocke tried to return it to her grave in Japan. Matsu'o did this to force Betsy to kill him. The Hand assassin had suffered for years at Wolverine's hands after being responsible for the death of Mariko Yashida, and he wanted the release of death. Psylocke eventually relented and killed the man who had once been Kwannon's lover. [Psylocke #1]

When Betsy Braddock encountered Saphire Styx in Madripoor during a search for Wolverine's missing body, Betsy found herself reborn in a reconstructed version of her original British body. Mysteriously, Kwannon was also returned to life, her soul returning from beyond the grave to inhabit her now vacant flesh. [Hunt for Wolverine: Mystery in Madripoor #4]

During the last days of the X-Men, when most of the X-Men were trapped in an alternate reality, Kwannon appeared before the group of remaining X-Men members, just as they were finishing a battle with Joseph. Although the battle was won, Kwannon decapitated Joseph to end it for good. Before they could wade into the reason for her appearance or motives, the X-Men learned that Wolfsbane had been murdered Kwannon offered to accompany Wolverine to his investigation. The two soon found the murderers (several human men) and likely would have killed them if the Office of National Emergency had not intervened. [Uncanny X-Men (5th series) #16-17] Kwannon continued to work alongside Wolverine as he operated separately to the rest of the X-Men. This led to a confrontation with Emma Frost and her associates, including Mystique. Kwannon fought Mystique, who shoved her sword into Kwannon's shoulder. When the battle was over, Kwannon seemingly vanished. [Uncanny X-Men (5th series) #19-20]

When the mutant nation of Krakoa was established, Kwannon moved to the living island, just like thousands of other mutants. One such mutant was Betsy Braddock. At a party on Krakoa, the two women almost encountered each other, until Jubilee interrupted them. Whether she wanted to talk to Betsy or not, Kwannon quickly turned and walked away. [Excalibur (4th series) #1]

As Betsy Braddock had recently become the new Captain Britain, Kwannon began calling herself Psylocke and took up the traditional version of the ninja costume as her own. Despite the martial nature of her outfit and identity, she appeared to be seeking peace on Krakoa, spending time meditating. It was during one such meditation that a voice warned her of her new enemy – Apoth – a god that she must kill. After confiding in Magneto, who forbade her to leave the island following the assassination of Xavier, she met with Sinister. Although he granted her passage, Sinister suggested she don't leave alone. Psylocke didn't think anyone trusted her on Krakoa, so Sinister told her to find someone who wanted to destroy something. She found the young, time-displaced Cable and X-23 training one night and told them she had something to talk to them about. It was around this time that she also had another brief encounter with Betsy Braddock, who wanted to speak, though Psylocke refused her invitation.

After convincing Kid Cable and X-23 that Krakoa could not offer them what they needed, Psylocke and X-23 journeyed to Tokyo. Reconnecting with old acquaintances who had respect for her due to her connection to Matsu'o, Psylocke began to investigate Apoth. She was told that Apoth was a rumor, a black market technician selling body modification and digital narcotics, but not one was sure Apoth existed. The first clue in discovering Apoth was a techno-drug called Overclock, which bypassed the need for chemicals and boosted the endorphin centers of the brain. The downside was that it could kill you, too – combustion, taking everyone around you with you. While examining footage of one of the Overclock victims, Psylocke noticed a butterfly marking and realized that her daughter was killed by Apoth. She instantly confronted the black market operative giving her this information, demanding to know where Apoth was. Their quest led them to a farm outside of Tokyo, where dozens of children were connected to Apoth, using their Overclock drug. Apoth killed the children and, through the one remaining child, warned Psylocke to return to mutant exile. Without her, the world could evolve. Apoth then killed the remaining child. Returning to Krakoa, Psylocke told Cable and X-23 that they need more help and offered to bring Apoth to Sinister. [Fallen Angels (2nd series) #1]

While struggling with her newfound independence and being back in her own body, Kwannon was determined to continue the quest to find Apoth. Cable believed he had found a location connected to Apoth, Sao Mateus, where children were forced into slave labor by an Overclock cartel. Psylocke was given permission by Sinister to leave the island of Krakoa once more and, while she continued to have to meet with Sinister, she also worked to help Cable and X-23 with their own issues. When they arrived in Sao Mateus, Brazil, they were confronted by a technological monstrosity. Within the large weapon, Psylocke discovered one of the children who had been forced into slave labor by Overclock. Connecting with the child, Psylocke determined that Apoth's forces took all of the children and had been using them. The boy in the machine then died, not able to survive without the machine. Psylocke knew her quest now was to rescue the children from Apoth, however X-23 wanted to find Cable, who had been taken during the fight with the machine. [Fallen Angels (2nd series) #2-3]

Psylocke and X-23 located a number of the children, and Apoth spoke to Psylocke through one of the children as he had done previously. He offered to let the children live if Psylocke gave him what he wanted. Apoth told Psylocke that she gave him life and that Cable's survival depended on her linking to the child's mind. Despite X-23 warning her against doing so, Psylocke connected with Apoth and learned that, while she was an assassin, she was sent to kill Apoth many years ago. Instead of fulfilling her mission, she listened to Apoth and walked away, which enabled Apoth to grow, and link up to data pathways, setting itself free. Apoth claimed to be God and that Psylocke was his mother. He told her to join him, or else more children would die. After the connection ended between Psylocke and Apoth, the children were mostly unharmed, but a strange new being was formed. [Fallen Angels (2nd series) #4]

Psylocke returned to Krakoa, where Sinister helped her connect to Apoth again, this time using the Overclock technology, where she learned more about Apoth's plan to take over the world's largest cities. As she formed her plan to defeat Apoth, she spent some time watching Betsy Braddock and decided that she would forgive Betsy once she could no longer feel her, and that they were truly apart. Psylocke and her allies journeyed to Dubai, where Apoth was wreaking havoc. Psylocke met Apoth on the “technological-plane” via the Overclock technology and challenged him. Apoth was determined to now kill his “mother,” even disguising himself as Psylocke's dead daughter. However his did not deter Psylocke, who shoved her psi-knife into Apoth, destroying him. The strange being she earlier encountered then returned, claiming to be the opposite of Apoth and then took credit for Apoth's demise by claiming to have summoned Psylocke to end him. Psylocke later gave the Overclock technology to Sinister, who told Psylocke that he would call on her if he had need for her. [Fallen Angels (2nd series) #5-6]
