Omega Flight was soon shut down, and Canada was left with no official team. So, when Walter's former teammate Wild Child got himself into a spot of trouble by working with a villain called Romulus in an effort to have Wolverine kill Sabretooth so that he could move up the “lupine” hierarchy, Walter worked alongside Feral, Thorn and Wolfsbane to find Wolverine and attempt to help Wild Child. Unfortunately for Walter, his previous connection to Wild Child counted for nothing and, when he was found by Wild Child, he was attacked and left in a bloody heap. [Wolverine (3rd series) #53-54]
When the Chaos King killed Nightmare, plunging the mortals of Earth into a deep sleep, he then set his sights on slaughtering the pantheons of gods. When the Great Beasts found themselves next on the Chaos King's hit-list, Sasquatch (whose form was that of the Great Beast called Tanaraq) was summoned to their realm. There, Sasquatch was presented with a deal – help the Great Beasts against the Chaos King and, in return, they would retrieve from the afterlife several of his deceased teammates.
Still dealing with his survivor's guilt, Sasquatch agreed to the Great Beasts' proposition and, upon returning to Canada, was reunited with Snowbird, Northstar and Aurora, who were immune to the slumber that had befallen most people across the world. To their surprise, Sasquatch presented them with their deceased teammates – Guardian, Vindicator, Shaman and Marrina. The Great Beasts were true to their word and, while the reunion was initially a joyous one, the reunited Alphans soon had to make good on Sasquatch's deal with the Great Beasts and battle the Chaos King's invading forces. Sasquatch's plan to restore his teammates to life and help the Great Beasts had one big problem, however – Snowbird. The Great Beasts' immortal enemy could not bring herself to protect the Great Beasts.
Sasquatch argued with her about the benefits of helping the Great Beasts, namely their teammates being back. However, as the Great Beasts were defended by Alpha Flight, the Great Beasts' curse began to spread and civilians began waking from their slumber, transformed into flesh-eating Wendigo. Sasquatch found himself overpowered by Snowbird and Northstar, who (along with the dead Vindicator and Shaman) banded together to ensure the Great Beasts were destroyed for the greater good, even if it meant that the dead Alpans would return to the afterlife. Sasquatch was unable to stop Snowbird from destroying the Great Beasts but, after pleading with his dead teammates, Sasquatch and the others were shocked when the four dead Alphans remained alive. Together, they all joined in the final assault against the Chaos King. [Chaos War: Alpha Flight #1]
The original Alphans re-established themselves as Canada's premiere super-heroes shortly after and, reunited with Aurora, Walt began to flirt with her once more. When he suggested a date, however, she turned him down. The two worked together to battle the villain Citadel, who was attempting to overload a vital power station on Canada's national election day, in an attempt to disrupt the voting process as he believed the Unity Party, who was running for power, was corrupt. Although Sasquatch and Aurora were able to defeat Citadel, the true villain, the Unity Party, was quietly ushered into power, winning the Canadian election. [Alpha Flight (4th series) #0.1]
Fear began to spread across the world thanks to the Serpent God empowering several beings with greater power. One such being was the Atlantean warlord Attuma, an old enemy of Alpha Flight's, who unleashed a wave of destruction on Vancouver's coastline. As Alpha Flight battled Attuma and assisted with the evacuation of civilians, Sasquatch seemed to enjoy being back amongst his teammates, particularly Aurora, and continued to flirt with her during the battle. However, it wasn't all fun and games, as a bigger threat was in play here. Canada's new Prime Minister, Gary Cody, enacted the Emergencies Act, suspending the nation's Charter of Rights and Freedoms and enforcing martial law across Canada in an attempt to stop the spread of fear.
Sasquatch and the other Alphans were not immune to the Prime Minister's orders, as they were captured and taken into custody. It was there that Walter was presented with scans of his brain and advised by Department H's liaison, Agent Jeff Brown, that his time as a pro-footballer was catching up with him, as he had sustained numerous damages to his brain. Walter was shocked to learn that memory loss, depression and mood swings would eventually result in him ceasing to be the person he knew himself to be – but that the Unity Process could restore him.
Walter was freed with the help of his teammates and the recently returned Puck before he could undergo the Unity Process, which was essentially a brainwashing exercise carried out by Department H under the orders of the Unity Party in an effort to control certain people. Although he found himself unable to transform into Sasquatch, with the rest of Alpha Flight he was branded a fugitive by the Unity Party. One of Alpha Flight's own, Vindicator, who had voluntarily undergone the Unity Process in exchange for the return of her daughter, led the charge against Alpha Flight, who were now on the run. Sasquatch and the rest of Alpha Flight found allies in those whom the government had been rounding up in anticipation of undergoing the Unity Process, and established themselves a camp where they trained their human allies for the coming war. Unable to take part in active missions for fear of endangering those around him, Walter remained at the Alpha Flight camp, where he analyzed some equipment stolen from the Unity Party and ascertained that it was Plodex in origin. Despite being frustrated, he couldn't join his teammates in battle, Walter put his genius brain to good use and developed a machine that could reverse the Unity Process. However, when Aurora, whose split-personality, Jeanne-Marie, had sided with the Unity Party, was injured in a fall, Walter uncontrollably transformed into Sasquatch and lashed out at his teammates. Alpha Flight had also discovered that their greatest foe, the Master of the World, was behind both their current struggles and the Unity Process. Additionally, while they battled the Master and his allies, Sasquatch continued to cause trouble fighting them, until eventually Aurora was able to soothe the savage beast he had become. When the Master was defeated, Alpha Flight set about to restore those who had undergone the Unity Process and help rebuild their great nation. [Alpha Flight (4th series) #5-8]
When strange Mayan temples began appearing in odd locations around the Earth, including one in Alberta, Canada, Sasquatch and the rest of Alpha Flight became caught up in a war with ancient Mayan deities who drained the abilities of powerful super beings and used their lifeforce to be restored to life. Walter was unwisely in his Sasquatch form at the time and made him vulnerable to possession by the ancient deities. When it was suggested that Alpha Flight could use his scientific prowess rather than his physical, he was unable to transform back into Walter and attacked his teammates and the Red Hulk, whom they were working with on this mission. Along with Snowbird and Aurora, Sasquatch was captured by the Mayan deities and held captive within one of the temples. The Mayan deities drained the Alphans energies but, thankfully, the trio were discovered by allies of the Hulk's who were also caught up in the conflict. They were liberated from the temple and placed in a stasis chamber at Gamma Base, where they were restored to health and later took part in the final battle to defeat the Mayan deities. Alpha Flight continued to serve the great nation of Canada and the world from dangerous threats, one of the most dangerous being the deadly Wendigo outbreak that was spread by eating human flesh. This had been orchestrated by the Great Beast Tanaraq, who once again sought to leave the Realm of the Great Beasts and take over Earth. Alpha Flight worked alongside the X-Men to put an end to the Wendigo outbreak, during which Sasquatch was part of a squad that journeyed to the spirit realm. Given his connection to Tanaraq, Walter struggled to resist the Wendigo curse but led a team of Alphans and X-Men to the entrance to the spirit realm. He remained on Earth with several X-Men to battle the growing number of Wendigo, and continued to struggle to resist the curse which compelled him to give in. Thankfully, Tanaraq was defeated and the Wendigo curse was reversed. Walter's mental state seemed to have improved from previous adventures, given how he was able to resist Tanaraq's power. While Alpha Flight remained active as a team of super-heroes, the name Alpha Flight was soon re-purposed to the Alpha Flight Space Program, which operated from the new Alpha Flight Space Station (AFSS), established in low orbit around Earth as Earth's new intergalactic diplomatic, defense and alert station. Three of Alpha Flight's longest-serving members agreed to transfer from the Canadian-based team to the AFSS. Given his scientific prowess, Walter was an obvious choice for the new assignment, although he opted to constantly remain in his Sasquatch form. Along with Puck and Aurora, he regularly found himself working alongside Captain Marvel to investigate alien threats and prevent them from reaching Earth, such as the Satori and the Eridani. Aboard the space station, Walter maintained a professional standard with regard to Aurora, with the two never discussing the status of their relationship, or lack thereof. When a new Inhuman by the name of Ulysses gained the ability of precognition, Sasquatch stood by Captain Marvel's side when she decided she wanted to recruit Ulysses into the Ultimates program, viewing him as a vital tool to staying ahead of threats before they happened. When Captain Marvel let slip to the Alpha Flight Space Program's Board of Governors, including Canadian representative Philippe Beaulieu, the existence of Ulysses, the Board gave her full authority to use Ulysses for the benefit of the greater good. Puck, Aurora and Sasquatch soon found themselves in a difficult situation when, after being filmed battling the teenager Excavator as part of the predictive justice program, preventing Excavator from carrying out a crime, they were summoned back to Canada for a meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister. The Prime Minister expressed his displeasure that his national heroes were caught on film beating up a teenager and gave them some strong words to consider regarding the predictive justice scheme and the freedom of choice. When the loyalties of Aurora were put to the test at the height of the predictive justice project and superhuman civil war, Sasquatch spoke up strongly in support of his longtime teammate and former girlfriend. Puck sided with them both, which put the trio at odds with Captain Marvel, who had accused Aurora of leaking information to protect those predicted of becoming threats.
Sasquatch and his teammates battled Captain Marvel until they were put into custody aboard the AFSS. Their representative on the program's Board soon visited them, where it was revealed that Philippe Beaulieu was none other than Alpha Flight's arch-nemesis, the Master of the World. It was he who was leaking the information about potential threats, all as part of a plot for revenge on both Alpha Flight and Captain Marvel. He shunted Sasquatch and the others out of the space station to their potential deaths. Captain Marvel rescued them, having already discovered the Master of the World was behind her troubles. Captain Marvel defeated the Master of the World and, following the shutdown of Alpha Flight Space Program's Board of Governors, Captain Marvel was given ultimate authority over the program. These events at least temporarily put a strain on Sasquatch's relationship with Captain Marvel, while Aurora departed the AFSS for an assignment at NASA.
