Spinning out as one of the two main X-titles following the Schism between Cyclops and Wolverine at the end of the Utopia era, this was the school focused series with a more light-hearted tone. Jason Aaron had recently written the main Wolverine solo title and while he was obstensibly the main character, the younger generation of mutants and the teachers/staff often had just as much, if not more screen time. One of the major characters brought back and given focus was Quentin Quire who often played off Wolverine as his foil. Characters such as Broo, Genesis, Oya, and Glob Herman also received a lot of charactization and new characters like Kid Gladiator, Eye-Boy, and Shark-Girl were introduced. One of the major reoccuring new villains was a new version of the Hellfire Club run by four children.
