Add-on a Change Time for a change While it was a good thing to have the regular site logo interrupted by special events time and again, it got boring to always return to the same look afterwards. As previously mentioned, the logo that appeared on the Uncanny X-Men title had changed just around the same time as we had designed our own site look. At first we wondered whether it was going to be a permanent thing or if it would revert back, but when the next creative team took over the title, it was obvious that the logo was going to stay around for a while. Therefore we used this new Uncanny logo as a new template form and seized the opportunity to give the site design a slight makeover. When we say template form, we mean that eventually we would start alternating the images inside the logo in semi-regular intervals, based on the teams featured in each of the X-Titles. The new logo was somewhat smaller, allowing for additional images on the right side of it. We then had the idea to have different designs for each subsection of the site (cover gallery, fan fic, issue summaries, etc.) However, for the front page we didn’t know what to use, until someone had the idea to have a logo specific add-on image, showing some former members or the supporting cast of the book. Of course, the site being named Uncanny X-Men.Net – that book’s line-up was the first to be showcased. What about Originality When the time came for changing the images inside of the logo, we were aiming for diversity. We really wanted to show how different the new logo could be. Then, totally out of the blue, the idea hit us – why only limit it to the current teams? Why not use past line-ups or some other themes? Naturally, the choice had to be the original five X-Men, the line-up that started it all. So, right after the newest incarnation of the team, we had the oldest appear in the logo. X-2: Logo United Not much later, a certain movie was released featuring some characters from a series of comics, and so we changed the logo to accommodate. It must be noted that this is one of the most unusual logos made for the site, as it basically created itself and it looked pretty good. Obviously the movie crew knew of our site and arranged the promo posters in such a way that the images would fall perfectly into place. Only a couple of images on the right hand side needed to be reversed to fit. Drop by for a visit After three, albeit different, X-Men teams in a row, it was time to broaden the scale by introducing another X-team to the logo. As right then the Exiles had gained Magik as a new member, they seemed to be the perfect choice. With six current and three former members, they perfectly matched the template forms for the main and the add-on part of the logo. The figures were mostly the same that had been used for the team picture in the now defunct Current Title Info Section.
