Jubilee learned that, in her absence, the other members of Generation X had also encountered the Prime Sentinels and barely survived. The incident had revealed that M was actually a pair of eight-year-old twins in a composite form. Before Generation X was formed, the real Monet had been mutated into Penance by her brother, Emplate, and their younger twin sisters had been posing as Monet ever since. Their situation was reversed with the twins trading places with their older sister. They now inhabited the Penance body and Monet was restored to her true form. [Generation X (1st series) #32, 40]

Oddly enough, this transition did nothing to alter the bad blood between Jubilee and M. Jubilee was arguably the member of Generation X who was the closest friend to the mysterious, mute girl called Penance. However, Monet accused Jubilee of treating her like a pet when she was trapped in the Penance form. She was furious at being dehumanized and looked down upon by Jubilee, who was bewildered by Monet’s reaction since she felt that she had been especially nice to Penance. This difference in perception fueled the continuing feud between Jubilee and the true M. [Generation X (1st series) #48]

Despite being home to a team of mutants, Xavier’s School was robbed by two local kids. One of the thieves was the police chief’s daughter, Tracy Authier. While her friend stole mainly valuable things, Tracy was after more personal belongings – including the compromising diary of Husk, Skin’s gun from his days in a gang and the cowboy hat Logan had given to Jubilee. The three mutants confronted Tracy and made her see the personal value of each of these items. She gave them back in exchange for being given a personal tour of the mutants’ mansion. After a severe loss in funding for the school, Emma was forced to ask her older sister, Adrienne, for money. Using her psychometric powers, Adrienne learned the truth about Generation X and agreed to help Emma for her own devious ends. Adrienne reopened the school to Ivy League humans and set herself up as co-headmistress. Jubilee and the others were forced to adopt secret identities in their own home and keep their powers and training a secret from the rest of the student body. [Generation X (1st series) #50]

While on an early morning run, Jubilee came across the injured body of Paladin, whom Adrienne had hired to retrieve a sword from Madripoor. Jubilee was smitten by the handsome mercenary and volunteered Generation X to help him when he returned to Madripoor to complete his assignment.

To maintain their cover, Paladin had Jubilee wear a dress and took her to a fancy restaurant. The teenager was so busy eyeing her dashing escort that she could barely keep her mind on the mission. Generation X soon encountered a team of superhuman bodyguards known as the Rising Sons. In the end, the team succeeded in acquiring Adrienne's sword and Paladin left to resume his mercenary life. Days later, Adrienne was named the new White Queen of the Hellfire Club and used the Danger Room and her own psionic powers to trap Jubilee and the rest of Generation X. She crafted a scenario in which Generation X were trapped in the Hellions' bodies on the day they died. Jubilee found herself in Catseye's body. The safety protocols of the Danger Room were turned off and the team realized they were in real danger. Fortunately, Emma Frost and the team overcame Adrienne's plot before history repeated itself and anyone was seriously hurt. However, they failed to prevent Adrienne from escaping. On the anniversary of her parents’ death, Jubilee went through old pictures of them and was shocked to see one photo of them with Hunter Brawn, an evil millionaire Generation X had recently encountered. Jubilee wondered how her folks could have been involved with him and ran a full investigation. She learned that Brawn was using the vice president of Lee’s bank to wash his dirty money. Jubilee’s father had uncovered this and given the vice president a deadline to turn himself in before he alerted the authorities himself. However, before he could do so, Brawn arranged for Lee and his wife to be murdered. Having learned the truth after all this time, Jubilee attacked Hunter Brawn on his own estate. With her friends providing back-up, Jubilee defeated Brawn and the old man was arrested for his crimes. [Generation X Annual ‘99]

Around the same time, Generation X were informed that Wolverine had been replaced by a Skrull imposter after he was kidnapped by Apocalypse and transformed into his newest Horseman, Death. Jubilee volunteered to be part of the search party to pursue Logan, while the X-Men headed to Egypt to find Apocalypse. Eventually, Jubilee and the others, including Shadowcat and Psylocke, found Logan and succeeded in helping him break free of Apocalypse’s programming. [Gathering of the Twelve crossover]

Back at the school, Jubilee discovered something rather frustrating. Everett, whom she always had considered more than just a best friend, was falling in love with Monet and they had started a relationship. Jubilee felt a little betrayed that he started dating her rival, since there had always been a bit of romantic tension with Everett that she hoped would blossom into something more. [Generation X (1st series) #67]

Several months after she left, Adrienne infiltrated the Massachusetts Academy and stirred up anti-mutant hysteria among the human students and their parents. Jubilee was among the first mutants to be exposed and her room was set on fire. While she wasn’t hurt physically, all her belongings, including the few remaining photos of her parents, were lost. This was just the tip of the iceberg. Large portions of the Academy were destroyed in a mass riot and series of bombings. Tragically, Synch was killed while trying to defuse a bomb set by the perpetrators.

Enraged over losing another student, Emma killed her own sister. Following the incident, Sean and Emma shut down the Academy to outsiders. The remaining members of Generation X began to take stock of their lives. Husk suggested that Generation X dedicate themselves to aiding other children in need of unique or superhuman aid. [Generation X (1st series) #68-70]

One positive thing did come from Synch’s untimely death – Monet and Jubilee finally managed to move past their differences because they now had something in common: their grief. [Generation X (1st series) #72]

Jubilee’s headmasters had their own difficulties dealing with Everett’s death and other recent events. Sean turned to alcohol after his lover Moira MacTaggert was killed and Emma avoided the police, who were investigating Adrienne’s whereabouts.

In the aftermath of all this, Generation X began to doubt their effectiveness and decided to disband. Chamber was invited to join the X-Men and Jubilee seemed more excited about it than Jono himself. The rest of the group went their separate ways. Skin accompanied Jubilation on a road trip across the country as they made their back to their native Los Angeles. [Generation X (1st series) #75]
